Resumo: Lithuania lies in Central Europe on the coast of the Baltic sea, neighboring with Latvia, Belarus, Poland and Russia. The population of Lithuania is approximately 3,2 million people. The main religion is Christian Catholic. Lithuania is a member of EU and NATO. Main difficulties in the country: hard economical and political situation, high unemployment, especially, among young people.

Organization is based in Kaunas, which is the second largest city of Lithuania. Furthermore, Kaunas is near the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, about 100 km. A view of cultural life for spending the leisure time: theatres, cinema, the zoo, night clubs, an ice-rink, art and history museums and galleries. A significant part of Kaunas inhabitants are students, because there are 5 universities. Organization is located near the center of Kaunas. It's reached by trolley bus, microbus or taxi.

This organization is a governmental institution. Institution contains two big sectors – the babie's home department and habilitation department. The volunteers will work in the babie's home department (where there are children living from 0 till 3 years old if they do not have any developmental problems, or from 0 till 7 years old if they have some developmental problems or disabilities. The main aim of the institution is to take care of children (foster children) with normal or disordered development. Institution serves to create favorable conditions for their physical, emotional, psychological development and social adaptation.

There are 65 placements for children and there are 57 kids at the moment, 18-19 children sharing in one group. The volunteer will be surrounded by governess and several assistances in one group, also local volunteers fro time to time.

Perfil: We will be happy to host all kind of volunteers, we will consider all applications received, but it is crucial that the volunteer would love children and would be eager to work with them. Creativity, knowledge and experience in art or music subjects would be an advantage, eventhough not the requirement.
Also in our institution all volunteers before starting to work are asked to get health certificate, which they may get in their home country.

Tarefas: EVS volunteers give great possibility to our children to get individual attention, more learning possibilities, warmth, creative activities, etc., though it is also beneficial for the volunteer – 9-12 months is a good period to specialize into this environment and to get deep understanding of children needs, ways of learning, parental skills, to understand this social problem and its consequences.
Example of the tasks:
• assist in daily care of the children and babies activities (dressing up, feeding children or helping in eating, helping with the toilet);
• assistance for workers in doing different therapies for the children (music, art therapy, swimming pool) (bringing children to the therapies, help for the volunteers in the therapy);
• playing games, doing tasks for their development;
• going outside for a walk with the children;
• organizing festivals for the children;
• volunteers' own initiatives.
