Resumo: Project environment: Leeds and Everything is Possible
The coordiating organisation is based in Leeds in West Yorkshire in the North of the country, approximately 2.5 hours by train to London and Scotland. Leeds is an ethnically diverse area, with a high number of families of Indian, Pakistani, and Caribbean decent. Leeds Bradford has its own international airport, and there is a large student population and excellent transport system. Leeds is a very popular British city, with an excellent shopping centre, good sports facilities and a great nightlife.

The volunteer will be accommodated together with other volunteers in a flat or a house, close to the project or city centre. The accommodation is fully furnished, including bedding, and kitchen equipment. The volunteer will have his/her own single room or will share a twin room with another volunteer of the same sex. Bathrooms but not bedrooms will have locking doors. Volunteers will have access to a shared kitchen, communal bathroom and communal lounge. The accommodation is no smoking and parties are not allowed in the flats, however it is allowed to have friends or family to visit. Not all flats in the UK have showers, some only have a bath and some of the accommodation is in high rise flats.

During a volunteer's EVS project Everything's Possible does not allow them to take on additional paid work. Any additional voluntary work a volunteer wants to undertake during their EVS must be agreed with their mentor in Everything is Possible who would consult with the host project before agreeing this prior to commencement.

Volunteer will share accommodation with short-term volunteers (young people with fewer opportunities) this is a priority of Everything is Possible and volunteers who have any questions or concerns about any of these issues they should contact Everything is Possible for more information before signing the Activity Agreement.

Selby, a mining town, is located approximately 30 miles east of Leeds. The town centre is dominated by the beautiful Selby Abbey, dating back to 1069, and is surrounded by a range of shops and bars. The school is located on a housing estate in a fairly deprived area of the town and can be reached by a regular train service followed by a 15 minute walk.

Selby Primary School provides a rich, diverse and exciting learning environment within the context of a happy and caring community. The school is situated on the edge of the historic market town of Selby and is part of a children's centre campus serving the needs of children and families in our community.

The school offers spacious accommodation with up to date resources and equipment. This includes two halls, a library, an ICT suite with high speed Broadband connection for supervision internet access, 12 colourful and well equipped classrooms including interactive whiteboards, a music room, a chill out room, a landscaped eco-garden and a number of small areas for specialist working groups.

Perfil: We are looking for a confident, caring volunteer who enjoys a challenge and can motivate children. We are keen to share the volunteer's practical skills with the children, therefore would be looking for someone with talent in a particular area, eg sports, dance, gardening or a creative flair.

We are looking for volunteers who have the following characteristics:

Are able to work as part of a team and also to use their own initiative when necessary.
Our preference is for a native French speaker to join the project as this is the language which would be of most use in our school environment
Have specific talent, an interest in sports, dance or the arts and are confident to share their practical skills with children

Tarefas: Please explain:
what you can offer to volunteers in terms of Service and learning opportunities,
what will be the role of EVS volunteers in the Host Organisation,
the activities in which the volunteers could be involved and the activities the volunteers could create in your organisation. Please give examples of typical activities for the volunteers.

The volunteer will become a member of the staff team as a voluntary worker, working together throughout the daily routines up to 35 hours a week. To help build relationships, initially they will 'shadow' various members of staff in all year groups - learning about the school's practices and grasping an understanding of the caring ethos we pride ourselves on. We will encourage the volunteer to share with us their own strengths and ideas in order to plan them into the daily routine.

Initially the volunteers will receive an induction including health & safety and child protection. The first few weeks will involve getting to know the staff and children by working in every class (Nursery, Reception, KS1 and KS2) and along side the staff, getting knowledge of school routines and how to help the children progress their learning in various subjects.

Depending on the interests and strengths of the volunteer we hope to plan a short-term project that, with support from the EVS mentor, they can plan, lead and deliver to small groups of children. We are keen that the project is non-curriculum based in order to enrich the children's life experiences.

When the volunteer is confident in school we hope they could offer additional support to our French curriculum by introducing new activities based around their culture, for example an after-school speaking club or incorporating French cuisine into our cookery club.

Our school has an Inclusion Team which promotes an inclusive education for all our children. The volunteer will have the opportunity to work with the team and learn how to deal sensitively with vulnerable children who may have social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.

Horário: The Volunteer's working day will be 8.45-3.30pm with one hour for lunch from Monday to Friday. However, this is flexible as we hope the volunteer will be involved in lunch-time and after-school activities, in which case time off will be given. The role will be supernumerary and will not replace an existing member of staff, their role and contribution will be valued and supported by staff. We believe the school, children and the volunteer will greatly benefit from this exciting opportunity to share our experiences. The voluntary placement is a two-way exchange and we hope that they will find their time with us fulfilling both practically and emotionally. The volunteer will also be issued with a timetable which highlights the number of hours in the day and calculated for that week.

The timetable includes varied activities with most classes in school but we are aware that the student will benefit by establishing a routine therefore intend to start the day reading with the same Yr 1 class. The volunteer will be invited to any in house training that the staff are offered and will be invited to non-teaching staff meetings. For example training opportunities can include, safeguarding children and smart board training.
