Resumo: GEOGRAPHIC, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL BACKGROUND

Recently, the area has become a tourist attraction due to the gastronomic culture of wine and oil, the spectacular landscapes of the Sierra de Prades, ideal for trekking and climbing and some cultural events as the Medieval Fair.

In the past years, there has been an increasing demand of organised biological product consume, especially of fresh products such as vegetables, fruit, bread.
This has been followed by an increase in the biological production initiatives which, in the past 5 years, have multiplied by 3 the offer and this has permitted the creation of a network of organised producers to buy biological seeds, manure and commerce of high quality products, among other. A new social and active structure has been created in a rural reality which was poorer and poorer, with more abandoned plots and aged agriculturers.
The organisation forms part of this regional network of about 25 biological production units known as “Gent del camp”.

This network has formed a platform for the distribution of biological production and local consume, as a regional economic, sustainable development strategy. Different City Councils have contacted the platform for its municipal markets, public events, schools, agrarian fairs.

We work at a wider provintial scope through this platform providing courses, workshops, folks cooking and studies for public schools interested in biological, local school dining-rooms.

EVS vlunteers would live in the premises of the organisation, as well as volunteers from other programmes.
The premises include the office and the flat where the members of the working team live. Volunteers would therefore live with the members of the organisation. This would mean an accompaniment experience for the volunteers.
