Resumo: Work with children in day care. This project is very central in Freiburg, close to the main train station. Concept maternel is a public utility company which runs professional care facilites for children, young people, families and elderly people. As a service provider for the whole family we take in consideration all needs and expectations of children and parents. Thus our work is focused on development advancement and care for the children as well as reconciliation of work and family life. By a high degree of flexibility and long hours of opening we take in consideration the requirements of working parents. We are economically independant and therefore can arrange our paedagogical work autonomous. Quality checks of our work are very meaningful to us. We see ourselves as learner in a steadily process of exchange an development. Most important features of our child care facilities are: " education from the beginning: age-based learning opportunities for the wee ones provide a framework for an optimum of personality development " long hours of opening from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. " no closing time during school holiday, full service for the whole year " manifold cooperations with enterprises and organisations (e.g. university hospital Freiburg) establish general conditions for the reconciliation of work and family life Our teams are composed of committed and interested specialists in paedagogics, apprentices and trainees. Altogether they bear responsibility for all children. In full awareness of their responsibility and to ensure a continuous professional work with children all staff members are attending at regular intervals advanced training and supervision. Furthermore we are in constant dialogue with the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg (degree program: Infantile Pedagogics) and employ in part time some of the students to combine theoretical knowledge and practical work. The following projects have been realized by Concept Maternel: " Playgroup "Purzel
Perfil: The volunteer should have an interest in child care and in assitance to the elderly and should be open to interact with young people with challenging behaviour who are threatended with social exclusion. Previous knowledge of work with children and young people as well as elderly peole could be helpful. It's necessary for the volunteers to be sociable and outgoing, to have enthusiasm, and to be tol-erant to foreign cultures. Volunteers should be able to act on their own initiative, but also coop-erate in a team. Volunteers should have a basic knowledge of German and the willingness to learn german lan-guage. A driving license class B would be helpful. Candidates should describe their motivation for a voluntary service in this project in a detailed motivation letter. Important are neither national or social background, gender, language skills nor level of education, but a convincingly motivation
Condições: The volunteer lives in a 1-room-apartement in the building of the institution. However, if there are two volunteers (of the same sex, of course), both have to share the room. There is no internet access in the apartment. For short checking the Emails there is a computer at the institution. For surfing in the internet the volunteer has to go to na internet café, to the library or to the youth centre (there is one nearby). Food for lunch is provided by the institution; volunteers get money to buy and prepare their own food for dinner and breakfast. On top of the pocket money (€105 monthly) we provide a monthy ticket for public transportation. This allows volunteers using all buses and local trains in the region. It is very useful for excursions at week-ends and evenings. There is a weekly language training at one evening in Freiburg. All volunteers are combined in this training, no matter how good their German was before. If someone speaks very good German you might get unsatisfied. However, EVS is a cultural exchange and not a language class. The language training is a possibility for learning basic German for a better orientation and communication in a daily life. Above all it is a possibility for meeting other volunteers. Additionally, every volunteer has the possibility to participate in the language training of Neustadt. But so far this did not happen too often. Who wishes a language class of another/higher level needs to finance such a class by him-/herself. However, volunteers need to pay attention, that extra classes do not affect their work as a volunteer. Additionally, volunteers can attend events (speeches) at the university in Freiburg in order to improve their skills. About once a month I organize events and excursions such as hiking in the beautiful surrounding of Freiburg, visiting a concert or museum, going out for coffee or meeting for a pot-luck-dinner, etc. These events usually happen at week-ends. They offer volunteers to meet each others and to ge
