Tarefas:
Responsible for carrying out the project duties as described in the project description. To contribute their time, energy and enthusiasm towards the aims and the objectives of the project activities. To attend EVS training and meetings with partners.
Tasks of volunteer:
During the first week the mentor will have some interviews to verify attitudes, interests and abilities of every volunteer and will introduce at the project’s activity, subsequently volunteer will begin the following activity:
Libraries: The volunteer will have the chance to participate in the management of the activities run in the libraries and to know departments and their roles, passing from a role of user to an one of worker, increasing libraries’ initiatives related to both front and back office.
In particular the volunteer should be put side by side to the workers to:
• increase and enhance the library’s services already active: information, customers’ assistance, consultation, loan;
• support activities of promotion of books and spread of reading in libraries and on territory even addressed to citizenship living in discomfort conditions: organisation of the exhibition “Leggere per non dimenticare” (Reading not to forget), projects like Un libro e un volontario per amico (A book and a volunteer as friend) and Leggere per stare meglio (Reading to feel better) at Florence’s hospitals, management of “loan points” at city commercial centres and Bibliobus activities
• support organisation and management of guide visits, didactic laboratories, animate reading addressed to primary and secondary schools;
• settle documental heritages and support the activities of book processing: inventory, stamping, labelling, cover, possible interventions on computer catalogue
• support the cultural activities addressed to increasing in values and preservation of documents heritage even if historic: exhibition, editing of topic bibliographies or news bulletins, organisation of seminars and study days, publication of catalogues, etc.
An active approach will be followed to promote creativity and planning by the volunteers.
Horário: Time table: voluntary service will be carried out on 5 days, 30 hours per week, in the morning or in the afternoon + lessons of Italian language.
In exceptional cases, because of participation in special initiatives, a service during evening or festival days can be requested.
Holidays: 2 days off per month are foreseen during the service. These days can be gathered and used all together or in different times, but always agreeing with the mentor.
Condições: Food and accommodation
Food: the houses where the volunteers will live have a kitchen that can be used. A monthly contribution of 250 € will be given to every volunteer.
Accommodation: all the volunteers will live in two apartments Municipality of Florence’s property, in the city centre, in double or single rooms, with a common living room and the possibility to use the kitchen. In these apartments there will be just EVS volunteers.
Local transport
The volunteer will work in structures of the Municipality of Florence sited in town. However she will receive 35 € for monthly bus tickets for local transport every month.
Volunteer allowance
The volunteer will receive a monthly allowance of 400 € (115 € of pocket money plus 250 € as food contribution plus 35 € for local transport above mentioned) directly from the Municipality of Florence’s Treasury. First payment will be after 15/20 days arrival of the volunteer.
Learning outcomes
Volunteer works in contexts characterized by a strong care of relational aspects and attended by a wide and variegated typology of users: elder people, students, children and teenagers.
Contact with users, together with the support of valid professional characters (mentor, service workers) and training chances during which the exchanges of experience between volunteer will be supported, it will promote self-esteem and acquisition of skills and competences that will allow personal and social development.
Even several contact moments between European volunteers and other volunteers from civil service will be encouraged in order to develop an interaction between the two groups that could also run to manage some initiatives.
In addition to ensuring effective mentoring for each volunteer, the Hosting/Coordinating Organisation will take full responsibility for monitoring the whole learning process – explaining it fully at the on-arrival training, conducting a thorough mid-term evaluation and issuing voluntary experience reference on completion of each volunteer’s service.
Crisis management
The Hosting/Coordinating organisation takes responsibility for raising awareness of risk assessment, risk prevention and high quality pastoral support within the EVS programme.
Volunteers will be given advice on crisis prevention and management during on-arrival and induction training. They will also be provided with 24 hours emergency phone numbers. The Hosting/Coordinating organisation will hold all necessary personal information and emergency contact details for each volunteer.
