Resumo: The goal of “The Best possible scenario……” is to give a 12 month experience to young people to meet and work with youth of Croatia. The volunteers will have the opportunity to be directly involved in programs with youth and children groups in kindergardens, from different ethnic, confessional and cultural background, in Osijek, the main city of east side of Croatia. Through voluntary service and non formal education, s/he will get opportunities to learn more about the social integration and active participation in this part of Europe. With that, s/he will have the opportunity to show by his/her example the benefits of volunteering and learning about other cultures, through the European spirit.
The following objectives will ensure the achievement:
- to develop awareness about democratic citizenship as a meaningful direction for young people from different cultural background to participate in youth activities;
- to explore the nature of youth participation and instruments for it's promotion among groups of young people who usually have fewer opportunities to be active in civil society or youth activities at local and regional level;
- to develop creative and attractive ways of citizenship education through youth work and working with children.
The involvement of the volunteers will show their solidarity for the social and economic problems of the people of Osijek, and with that, s/he cares about the future of this part of Europe.
Perfil: responsibility and is interested to work with various people in the city of Osijek through our facilities and Institution, loves animals and the Zoo garden and is interested in working in different sport facilities. It would be good if the volunteer is creative, has a little experience in team work.
The volunteers should have at least average knowledge of English, because people mostly know and speak only that foreign language, or a Slavic language. Also, it is important that the volunteer is able to work in a middle size city 120.000 population in Eastern Croatia.

The Osijek City ZOO
The Osijek Zoo is located on the left bank of the Drava river, separated from the city and the noise, full of greenery and fresh air, which makes it just the right place for quiet life of animals, and rest and relaxation of humans.
The Zoological Garden of the City of Osijek was founded in 1955. In its 57 years of existence it was characterized by its size, as well as the number of animals. The Zoo has the largest open space for animals of all the Zoos in Croatia. The volunteers will help the staff of the Zoo to provide to the animals as much of their natural habitat as possible, from grassy plains, maintenance of tall grass for resting and hiding their young, helping them make nests, to groves in whose shades animals can hide from the sun during summer months, etc.
The volunteer will not be working directly with the animals of the Zoo.
The volunteer will be given the opportunity to learn about the administration of the ZOO. For example: How to get a new animal for the ZOO, to introduce the ZOO to the visitors, especially foreign groups and children. Explaining about the animal’s needs, habits and the way they live.
Also, what the volunteer can do is to take pictures of the animals and publish them on the website.
Through all the volunteer work, there will always be a special supervisor-employed staff from the Zoo, who will support the volunteer throughout the project.
Horário: The volunteer will have a 35hour working week and vacation according the EVS rules.
Condições: The volunteer will be living in the city of Osijek, in a suitable fully equiped (such as tv, heating, washing machine) house or apartment that we rent for long-time period. The house/apartment is a non-smoking area. Each room is a twobed room and shares a bathroom. The volunteer will share a room with a person from the same sex. The living/dinning room -the volunteer will share with other volunteers coming from different countries and by this – all together shares their living experience in an intercultural enviornment. The volunteer will be responsible for his/her own cleaning. We have professional staff that will support the volunteer. Such as: Project manager, Supervizor and EVS coordinator. The meals will be served at the City Youth Centre, which has easy acces to get to, either by walking, bike or by public transportation. There the volunteer will have daily meals where a professional cook will provide home cooked meals every day except Sunday and there is no problem if we have a volunteer with special dietary, religion or vegetarian needs. Also by this way, the volunteer can interact with the local community. For breakfast, supper and Sunday lunch – the volunteer will receive food allowance.
The volunteer will have access to free internet at the Institute and every day when s/he goes for lunch at the City Youth Centre.
The volunteer will have opportunities to interact with the local community, through the organized activites or if the volunteer would like to create an activity by him/herself.
