Resumo: PROJECT ENVIRONMENT

The organisation is based in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania (750 000 inhabitants) just 20 minutes by bus from the city centre and 40 minutes by bus from main railway and couch station. Bus links are wonderful. Bus stops next to organisation and there are 4 different busses going to the centre of Vilnius. There is big shopping centre 7 minutes walk. There are a lot of leisure activities and some marvellous parks in the city.

Our organisation is in "sleeping" area of Vilnius where most people live. There are a lot of schools around but not so many places where pupils can go after the school. So they spend time in the streets, begin to use alcohol or drugs. Also there are no community centres where people could come and communicate with each other.

THE OPEN COMMUNITY project dedicated to integrate and assist mentally challenged and disabled people and their families.

Perfil: - The most important is that the volunteer wouldn't be afraid of the target group they are going to work with (kids and youth with challenging behaviour and disabled people).

- Volunteers older than 18 years.

Leisure club “The Yard”
We offer integration into community through leisure time activities for children and youth with mental and complex disabilities as well as for their families.
We meet on Saturdays twice a month. These meetings come from sincere friendship with disabled people. This friendship with volunteers and each other grows through common activities – different workshops with space for creativeness, self expression, communicational development, community experience and interpersonal contacts. Sometimes we visit theater, concerts and cinemas.
And also very important…
If you are interested in hand made things, we are waiting for your oders!
We are produce icons, candles, prayer benches, ceramic things and occasional cards.

All tasks will be discussed with volunteers to find the best way for volunteers and organization. Any initiative of volunteers will be encouraged and supported to help our organization to develop.
