Resumo: PROJECT ENVIRONMENT

The organisation is based in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania (750 000 inhabitants) just 20 minutes by bus from the city centre and 40 minutes by bus from main railway and couch station. Bus links are wonderful. Bus stops next to organisation and there are 4 different busses going to the centre of Vilnius. There is big shopping centre 7 minutes walk. There are a lot of leisure activities and some marvellous parks in the city.

Our organisation is in "sleeping" area of Vilnius where most people live. There are a lot of schools around but not so many places where pupils can go after the school. So they spend time in the streets, begin to use alcohol or drugs. Also there are no community centres where people could come and communicate with each other.

Perfil: - The most important is that the volunteer wouldn't be afraid of the target group they are going to work with (kids and youth with challenging behaviour and disabled people).

- Volunteers older than 18 years.

Tarefas: Day center “Children to children” work for children from 7-12 years old, who:
- live in very pure material conditions,
- have emotional and behavior problems,
- have learning problems,
- need psychological help.
Also we are supporting the families in doing individual consultations and helping with material stuff.

Activities with the children of Day Centre:
- Helping the children to prepare their homework
- Having day-activity (social skills, art, sport, drama, etc)
- Organizing activities for children in the city (theatre, cinema, other events)
- Organizing integrative groups for children
- Arranging camps and hikes for the children and their families

Proposed tasks for the volunteer:

- Helping with doings homework
- Preparation of lunch together with children
- Spending some time individual with the children
- Participation in and helping to realize all the activities
- Organizing / helping to organize/ organize with Lithuanian volunteers:
-> Day-activity
-> Activities in city/ other special activities (they can come out of his/her own initiative)
-> Camps and hikes
-> Creative workshops for children (like handicrafts, theatre, sports, cooking, arts, teaching a foreign language, etc.)
-> Special evenings (Christmas party, Easter festival, etc.)

Condições: It is possible to have sometimes a free day during a working week, because once per two month the volunteer has to work for the whole weekend.

During his voluntary time he/she has a person (Mentor), with whom the volunteer will be able to refer and get clear tasks, to discuss them and to evaluate the on going activities. The mentor will give personal support, motivation, encourage and support the own initiative.

The volunteer will participate in inter-/national non-formal educations seminars and meetings and he/she will become the chance to get a member of a volunteer team.

Our organisation is ready to provide the youth with fewer opportunities with special support for the volunteer in terms of psychological, counselling or individual personal support which would be provided by the social centre's staff. The volunteers with fewer opportunities will have professional tutor who has been the volunteer herself and now works as social worker in the centre. That should be helpful to empathise with the volunteer's needs.
