Resumo: The European Voluntary Service is framed in the home that BASIDA manage at Aranjuez
Aranjuez’’s home, as we said previously, it was the first rises in 1990 in the nearby of Aranjuez due to the lack of a social and institutional answer to the HIV carriers because of the lack and the insufficiency of Official Services, of the non-existence of a policy of specific plans to face this problem.
Aranjuez in Municipality of Madrid’s Region located 47km away of Madrid. It has a population of approximately 49.420 inhabitants. This population is considered one of the "Royal Sites" of the Spanish monarchy since King Philip II appointed him well, also has the title of town. That is why it is also known as Real Villa de Aranjuez Site and. He is known for the royal palace and its gardens and tourism because of this influence is readily communicated Aranjuez Madrid by bus connected to the South Station-Mendez Alvaro and through the commuter train line C3 with the Atocha station.
The hosting house is 9 Km away from the train station, in the countryside, the local limits of Aranjuez. For getting Basida Aranjuez house is necessary to use means of transport, by bicycle, motorbike or car, which is why a structured way the host structure facilitate the mobility of volunteers as needed throughout the car.
In relation of the profile of residents they are quite young in comparison to the other 2 houses, there are many activities for favorize their physical and psicological rehabilitation of the individual person. All this favors that the activities that take place more dynamic and active people.
Perfil: The profile of the volunteers we would like to cooperate in our organization is:
- People of either sex, from anywhere in Europe or another region of the world and from any culture, race or religion.
- People with any degree of maturity, which are primarily sensitized and interested in knowing the problems generated by HIV / AIDS and drug addiction and share a few days of experience with these groups, and so added, have a motivation to learn and / or refine the language and Spanish culture.
Tarefas: Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:
All the staff who makes up the Therapeutic Team of BASIDA- Aranjuez is formed by voluntary staff without being no contracted staff. From the beginning of the activity and as part of the ideology and of the philosophy of the body is to know how to coordinate the voluntary enlistment and unselfish dedication with the professionalism and the training; the social quality with a personalized, integral and humanized attention. Therefore the volunteering is the driving-force which moves each one of the programmes and projects and which makes the execution of all the activities possible which carry out from the different departments. In the Hosting Home for people with AIDS of Aranjuez there is a coordinator of volunteering who will be responsible for accompanying and counselling volunteers and will also be the contact point between the therapeutic team and the volunteer.
Although the staff are volunteers, they are all professionals in their field: psychologists, therapists, movement therapists, nurses, doctors. They way of life and profession is done in an altruist way, dedicated to others. The people working in the foundation are founding members who decided to start this project when they saw the lacks of society. Although they are volunteers, they are also professionals in their work and it is them who provide guidance to EVS volunteers. The latter have a different responsibility, as they are support to the staff. In the home of Aranjuez, they will have a mentor who will guide them specifically in the tasks volunteers carry out.
Volunteers may participate in all activities in the professional departments previously mentioned, always taking into account factors such as the characteristics of the volunteer, the previous professional training and the personal preferences; considering these aspects as fundamental to get the volunteer to integrate and to adapt to the dynamics of the hosting home and at the same time he/she gets to get on with the group.
Volunteers will collaborate a maximun of 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday. The schedule time will be principally during the morning although it will be depend of the current necessities.
Some of the most frequent activities to be carried out by the volunteers are:
- Attendance to sick people and to those who are in bed.
- Help in the activities of physical rehabilitation and of occupational therapy for their cognitive rehabilitation.
- Participation in workshops (carpentry, gardening, painting…)
- Participation in the educative department: workshop of adult literacy, out-of-school support to children who live in the hosting home.
- Collaboration with organization of workshops and occupational activities: magazine, theatre, computer science, yoga and relaxation, sport activities,… workshop.
- Collaboration with organization of workshops and leisure activities (excursions, cultural activities,…)
The EVS volunteers will participate with the rest of the volunteers in the daily home activities.
Horário: Volunteers will collaborate a maximun of 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday. The schedule time will be principally during the morning although it will be depend of the current necessities.
Condições: Volunteers will live in the hosting project, and they will have all the facilities of the structure: Accommodation, meals, laundry, local transportation from the structure toAranjuez, and so on. They should adapt to existing rules such as the Center CAN NOT SMOKE OR DRINK ALCOHOL in the structure (both in the shelter and in the garden) should wear comfortable clothes and follow the directions and recommendations people working in Basida-Aranjuez. The reasons for this rule comes from the view that Basida is considered a therapeutic center where many people are in a state of detoxification.
Meals are held at the hosting house with the rest of the community. In the case of free time and out of the structure at these times will save the corresponding food.
They provide 5 meals a day: breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and dinner. Food can be adapted to the needs of the voluntary / a: vegetarian, food intolerances, etc.
Volunteers will be hosted in a room into the hosting house of Basida and they will have one bedroom and a bathroom which can be enjoyed individually or shared with other volunteer.
Internet is available within the structure, although it should be noted that it can be quite slow.
