Resumo: The center has experience in working together with local volunteers and volunteers from other countries, as EVS long-term volunteers in Bystrzyca Klodzka come from time to time to support the staff in the center. The local community of Bystrzyca Klodzka, as mentioned, has approximately 10.000 inhabitants. Besides, there are several smaller villages belonging to it, making the total number of people in the area 20.000. The town itself is about 700 years old and it has a colourful medieval and recent history. The town itself offers an open swimming pool in the summer, a small number of little pubs and two Pizzerias. It is situated along the direct train line between Wroclaw and Prague. Bystrzyca Klodzka is situated on the northern edge of the Sudety mountains. The town is surrounded by mountains, some of which are popular skiing areas in winter. The temperature in summer rises up to 30 degrees and in winter falls down to -20. There is snow for approximately four months of the year. Bystrzyca Klodzka is in the region in Poland with the highest unemployment with a rate of 38%. Due to this, there are few cultural and social activities in town. Public events are usually organized by the local house of culture. One of them is the annual Medieval festival which attracts tourists in summer for one weekend.

Tarefas: The volunteer will largely be responsible for building up good contact with the people in the Center and for communicating with them, even if they don't know the Polish language. Besides, he or she will be helping the staff to prepare and organize the workshops of the occupational therapy. This may include:
-going to buy materials;
-gardening;
-cooking;
-sculpturing;
-painting;
-playing bingo;
-taking part and leading games;
-straightening up the rooms;
-making models for the art and sculpture clubs;
-assisting, showing and explaining tasks in the workshops.

During the workshops, the volunteer can assist, show and explain the tasks to be done. Most of the people coming to the Centre daily do not have any opportunity to meet people from other countries, so they will be interested to hear about the volunteer's country and to spend time with him/her. As long as there are communication problems there will be a staff member around to assist and to translate. Moreover, the volunteer will have the possibility to participate in the offered workshops and trainings and will gain new skills and experience which may be useful in the future, throughout his/her stay here. The volunteer will be introduced thoroughly to the structure and activities of the center and will gain the greatest and widest possible understanding of the work involved in all areas of the center. They will understand the elderly better and will become more sensitive to their peoblems.
The volunteer will meet with their mentor regularly to talk about their work, problems, ideas etc. Individual meetings will also be held if needed or requested. Once a month, EFM will organize a trip (to the mountains, museum, cities,…) together with long-term volunteers, so the volunteer will have the chance to get to know the region better. Furthermore, the volunteers will participate in all activities organized by EFM, like projects involving youth from Poland and/or abroad.
The volunteers will attend Polish language course - four times a week for 1hour.
