Resumo: Project environment
The working field where the projects are developed is mainly the rural environment, particularly in villages belonging to the Community of local Councils of Limia, to the southeast of the province of Ourense, and has the centre in the local Council of Xinzo de Limia and Lodoselo, belonging to the local Council of Sarreaus, where the head office of the CDR "O Viso", the mentor home, the social dining room, the hostel, etc. are located.

The cultural development, social and economic profile of the population is:
" The area of Limia, with about 796 km2, is made up by eleven local councils, to which 256 settlements belong.
" The population's dispersal responds to a common feature in the rural environment in Galicia, which worsens the situation of generalized isolation and precariousness of the inhabitants.
" To this spreading we have to add an orography that avoids access and communications, which makes assistance access to certain collectives more difficult, mainly the whole inside rural environment.

" Limia presents a low grade of diversity in the productive activities; agriculture and farming still occupy most of the active population with a regressive evolution, and therefore with a decrease in the family income levels and an increase in the taxes that are provoking new situations of poverty and social exclusion.

" Insertion opportunities for the youth are still scarce, and the alternative is to move to the urban centres, as the rural world does not offer many economic, cultural, social, educational / training opportunities.

" Our area continues to present (La Caixa's social yearbook of 2003) a significant difference above the national standard regarding the elder rate; to this we will have to add the forecast that this number will go on increasing in the next years, as there will be more elderly, and will live longer.
The volunteers will be accommodated in a flat in Xinzo de Limia, rented by the CDR O Viso.

Perfil: Volunteers´ profile required to participate in the projects:
- Young people aged between 18 and 25.
- Open and social people.
- Skilled to work with the elderly and those who need it most.
- Wanting to know the most unprivileged rural environment.
- Due to the villages' dispersal in our rural environment, having a driver's license will be an asset.

Tarefas: ACTIVITIES PROPOSED FOR THE VOLUNTEERS
1. Information, guidance (grants, courses, financial help, elaboration of curricula, youth card...), information tables and awareness-raising campaigns on drugs, aids, fair trade, integration..., for the youth in the area at the CIX (Youth Information Centre of Limia), in collaboration with both secondary schools in Xinzo de Limia.
2. Help, support and accompaniment to the elderly and socially underprivileged families with an elder depending on them: reading post, personal affairs, buying food, drugs, cleaning, making company…
3. Support in the programme of communitarian dining room in Lodoselo (Sarreaus): users' transport, external provision…
4. Support at the itinerant toy and book library (leisure activities)
5. Activities of communitarian animation in the village-school of Lodoselo.
6. Environmental activities in the Nature's Room in Lodoselo: vegetable garden and farmyard.
7. Beginning and proposals of new projects, supported, counselled and supervised by the staff members.
