Resumo: Objectives of the project:
• to educate youth from risk groups about HIV/AIDS and human rights topics using non-formal education methods;
• to integrate young people from different background in youth activities.
Project environment
The project will take place in Riga, the capital of Latvia. There are approx. 750 000 inhabitants residing in Riga which is very dynamic and modern city. In Riga there are a lot of cultural events and active night life, as well as great architecture, sights and historical heritage. Everyone can find how to spend free time here.
Volunteers will live in shared apartment (each volunteer will have separate room).
About “Youth against AIDS” (2011-LV-20)
"Youth against AIDS" is a non-governmental youth organization that involves young people, aged 15–30, as volunteers. The organization’s focus and primary long-term goals relate to the involvement of young people in work with their peers educating them about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, contraception and other issues which relate to one’s health and one’s lifestyle.
In the organization all members are volunteers, about 10 of them are very active members and approx. 10 more members are coming to trainings and special activities. Most of organization’s members are high school and university students.
The organization is working since 1997 organizing educational and informational activities such as interactive workshops in schools and youth centers, discussions, summer camps and street campaigns, as well as informational activities in popular night clubs and festivals.
Tarefas: 1) To lead activities for youngsters in orphanage;
2) To lead activities for youth in correctional facility;
3) To lead activities for youth in prisons;
4) To lead activities for youth who are recovering from addictions;
5) To lead activities for youth in countryside schools;
6) To assist in new project development;
7) To assist in photo and installation exhibition (in August and September);
8) To organize non-formal activities for youth group in the organization (movie nights and the like);
9) To make short videos about EVS experience in Latvia and voluntary work in general (January);
10) To assist in International AIDS day activities;
11) To take active part in Latvian lessons (August, September); 12) To develop own initiative.
