Resumo: Project Environment:

Ankara, the capital of Turkey, is located in the heart of the country. It is a very old city and reveals many secrets for those who are ready to explore. Additionally, it is the centre of administration, government and houses all foreign embassies. The city provides many entertainment facilities, for young people and for the numerous students. The large shopping malls, entertainment parks and plentiful bars are especially popular amongst youngsters. Even though Ankara lies in one of the driest areas of the country, it is considered as the “green city” because it offers many green spaces and parks.

The office of S&G is situated right in the centre, easy reachable by public transportation. The work place, a friendly and pleasant open space, is equipped with computers, a small kitchen and provides other apparatus such as video cameras and office material. The overall atmosphere is warm, friendly and hospitable, which helps ensures a comfortable working environment. During the time in Ankara, the S&G office will serve as workplace for the volunteer.

The volunteer is accommodated in a private apartment, which he would share with other volunteers of S&G. It is fully furnished. The home offers several rooms for volunteers, volunteers share rooms with one or two of them; a kitchen, a big bathroom and a living room as common socializing space. It is, within a walking distance from the organization, situated in a safe, clean and fairly rich district of the town. The near-by park gives opportunity for various sport activities such as playing football or basketball. On the other hand, when travelling with the caravan, the volunteer will be provided with lodgings either in the caravan or in a hotel or houses of local families depending on local facilities.

In the free time, volunteers have the possibility to travel and we also organise common activities such as picnics and barbecues. These activities are not compulsory, but according to our experiences, they were very welcomed and appreciated by volunteers. The leisure activities help volunteers to adopt and find themselves comfortable in the new environment more quickly. They strengthen the bonds within the working group, which are essential and responsible for the pleasant working atmosphere.
