Resumo: Rasarit Kindergarten is a project of Asociatia de Ajutor AMURTEL, offering a holistic alternative, Neohumanist education to preschool and kindergarten age children in two locations in Bucharest. The kindergartens promote inclusive education, including children with social disadvantages or special needs in order to sensitize all of the children to diversity and inclusive values from an early age. AMURTEL has a partnership with DGASCP Sector 1 (the Department of Social Services and Child Protection in Bucharest, Sector 1), offering access to 4 children identified as being at risk due to social disadvantages in one of the kindergartens, and the other kindergarten has includes varying numbers of children with physical and mental special needs, according to enrollment requests.
Volunteers are involved in the planning, implemetation and evaluation of the extracurricular activities in the Rasarit Kindergartens, as well as participating in the daily routine activities (assisting with teachers with serving meals, supervising children washing hands, getting ready for naptime, gardening, cleaning etc.).
In addition, the project also includes socialization and recreational contact with young adults benefitting from the Vistara Integration Project, which facilitates the social integration of the young adults transitioning out of care from Familia AMURTEL. Volunteers have the opportunities to provide positive peer models for the Vistara young adults, and to encourage them to socialize and expand their friendships.

Tarefas: The preparation phase consists in volunteer training, participation in the annual renovation and decoration of the kindergarten, enrolling the children and meeting with parents.
Once the schoolyear begins, volunteers organize short holistic language sessions in their mother toungue, using stories, songs and props.
Volunteers receive a specific training in organizing such activities. Volunteers also assist the teachers in the daily program, continuing to speak in their mother tongue with the children throughout the day, so as to familiarize them in a natural way with the new language.
Volunteers’ tasks are mainly to plan, implement and evaluate the language learning activities they design for the children, as well as to design additional extracurricular activities according to their skills – such as arts or music activities. In addition, the “Multicultural Festival” is a two week long curriculum that takes place every year, giving a chance for the children to experience authentic aspects of the volunteer’s country. Volunteers are actively involved in all aspects of the design of this curriculum, and assist teachers in choosing appropriate stories, dances, music, games and other thematic learning experiences. Once a year the volunteers are also involved in helping to organise an Open Day program for new parents and other members of the community, promoting the results of both the kindergarten and EVS.
In addition, EVS volunteers are given opportunities to socialize and participate in both non-formal and organized activities with the children of the Familia AMURTEL project and the young adults from the Vistara social integration project.
As the beneficiaries of these projects often have deep emotional problems from their history of neglect and trauma, volunteers receive training about the special needs arising from traumatic histories, and are encouraged to read specialized material as well. Contact with the beneficiaries from these projects is mediated by the staff of the project.
The contact with the Vistara young adults in particular, ensures the EVS volunteers integration into the community.
