Resumo: This project will take place in the area of the Sklabina Castle, near Martin in the north-west of Slovakia. The volunteers will live in community with the members of the organisation „DONJON OZ“. For 12 years, this organisation take care of the castle and guide tourist in the museum. On the same time, the members of the organisation try to live an eco-friendly live, in harmony with nature.

Perfil: We do not plan to host volunteers below the age of 18.

Our place offers a simple life and different kinds of work (sometimes hard work but there is always an alternative option). The volunteers should be able to live in simple conditions as well as keep in mind, that the castle is not surrounded by a big metropolis, but rather lies in a rural area without discos or night bars. We live outside of a town, close to nature and this castle doesn't offer what we can find in a modern city. The volunteers need to be motivated in order to want to live this kind of life. Our selection will be based only on the motivation that the volunteer will show to participate in this project. The volunteer should also be able to communicate in english.

Our project is open to everyone, it will be published in the database of accreditted organisation and we will reply to any volunteer interested whether there is a free place. As we already mentioned we are also open to hosting volunteers with fewer opportunities, so our project is really for any young person.

We will be happy also to forge new contacts with various sending organisation as we are very open minded, and there is always something you can learn from your partners.

Tarefas: During this year, the volunteers will participate at all the activities of the organisation: the reconstruction of a part of the castle, using the old technologies, like in middle age. work in the museum: prepare expositions and documents in there own language and guide tourists. desing a webpage to present the organisation take care of chicken and goats, milk goats, make cheese and yoghurt work in the organic garden and the orchard, prepare food for winter (dry mushrooms, fruits, smoke meat...) During summer we will organize international camp for yougsters together with Historicko-Astronomicke Spolocnost who take care of the Lednica Castle, OZ Vysehrad who create hand make ceramics. Volunteers can also realize their own projects here.

Here, the volunteers will:
" Learn about the history of the castle, of this region and of Slovakia and use what they learn to make material for the museum in their own language. Of course, volunteers can guide tourists in museum, at first in English or in their own languages with foreigners. If a volunteer knows how to work with webpage design, he/she can make a website to show who we are and what we do here.
" Learn how to work and build just as it was done during the middle-ages with original tools and techniques. He/she can learn to build walls, vaults, pillars, roughcast with lime... The volunteers can also learn with our partner how to work with ceramic and how to make a stove. The volunteers will also have an opportunity to visit and work on other castles in the area.
" Learn how to take live more eco-friendly, they will take care of goats, milk them and learn how to make their own cheese; take care of the organic garden, do seasonal works with hay or wood, control the well , the water and the solar system for electricity...
" Volunteers will help at the organisation of the summer season, where international volunteers arrive, there will also be various workshops and scout camps.
" We will take the volunteers to visit and help organisations similar to ours that also work on preserving cultural heritage, such as OZ Lednica or Vyšehrad.
" The volunteers can also bring their own ideas to improve the life in the castle and create new activities, we are open to any suggestions or ideas depending on the skills of the individual volunteers. They can get involved with promotion, they can design their own workshop, or bring new ideas on how to re-create the old ways of life.
