Resumo: “Volunteer for nature” project aims at implementing an EVS placement in order to promote environmantal education and protection in rural comunities and Roma comunities in the area of Dragasani city.

Project’s specific objectives:
- Enhancing and acquring new skills for ten volunteers in the field of environmental education and protection
- Acquiring skills by the volunteers in the field of intercultural education
- Combating poverty and marginalization in Roma communities through active involvement of European volunteers to solve social problems.
- Promoting volunteering within the local communities of promoters
- Promoting non-formal learning through outdoor activities and active participation of young people by involving volunteers and solving environmental problems in the city of Dragasani.
- Strengthening the European dimension in partner organizations by providing examples of good practice in volunteering.
- Promoting active citizenship of ten volunteers through their direct involvement in all phases of the project.
- Promoting environmental education and environmental protection in schools from Dragasani area, including schools attended by Roma students.

During the implementation of EVS placement, volunteers will conduct several activities such as: "greening the city and rural areas surrounding Dragasani, administrating points of environmental information in Dragasani, workshops in schools, workshops with local authorities, etc. These activities will be achieved through non-formal education methods such as: debates, outdoor presentation, street animation, role playing, simulation games, theatre-forum, photo-voice, video-voice.

The volunteering activities will have a duration of 10 months , starting on 1 November 2012 and will involve six volunteers from Portugal,Turkey and Georgia.

Perfil: Volunteers’ profile and the recruitment process will ensure the general accesibility of EVS. Therefore, under no circumstances will volunteers be required to have certain ethnic or religious beliefs, sexual orientation, and political opinions. Likewise, professional qualification, specific experience or a certain level of education will not be required.

Volunteers’ profile
- age between 18 – 30 years
- equal participation of girls and boys
- adaptability in a multicultural environment
- willing to work in outdoors and to promote environmental and ecological education
- willing to participate in youth activities using non-formal education
- the ability to work with students from a national minority group
- willing to live in a foreign country for a period of one year

Tarefas: VThe EVS stage will take place between 1/11/2011 – 31/08/2013 for a 10-month period. It will start with a language training course for the volunteers. They will benefit from a two-week language preparation in order to acquire basic knowledge of Romanian language. The language training course will be held by a trainer within FCASEC and will consist in conversation practice, translation from and into Romanian, listening and reading comprehension. During the first two weeks, the volunteers will also participate in two training courses held by FCASESC in order to instil volunteers with the necessary abilities and skills related to outdoor activities aimed at protecting the environment, organising workshops and debates in the schools of Ramnicu Valcea.

The EVS stage will be titled “Environmental education for Dragasani” and aimes at transforming the city of Dragasani in a green city. The volunteers will perform the following activities:

- Specific activities at an information point regarding environmental education in Dragasani and surrounding areas.
- Greening activities in Dragasani and surrounding villages.
- Indentifying and creating tourist tracks for hiking around the city of Dragasani.
- Creating flyers, posters which promote environment protection and Dragasani as a green city.
- Street animation promoting environmental awareness within the local community.
- Fund-raising exhibition of recycled objects, created within open workshops in which representatives of the local public authorities, actors, artists, the elderly, the young, students or pupils can participate.
- Organising local projects on environmental issues in partnership with the local authorities.
- Field studies on the local traditions and customs in the area of Dragasani and creating a book on diversity, containing local customs and tradition in volunteers’ countries of origin.
- Updating the website of the project.
- Conducting a campaing meant to promote environmental education within the schools from Dragasani.
- Organising a campaign promoting EVS.
- Creating a video related to the EVS activity.
- Activities against poverty and marginalisation in the Roma community from Dragasani.

The activity meets the quality criteria in the EVS charter since the promoters will jointly decide on theirs tasks and responsabilities distribution within the activity as well as on the financing of the EVS project.

Roles and tasks of volunteers:

Volunteers’ role in this project is to promote Youth in Action programme by means of specific environmental activities in the area of Dragasani city and within the schools of the city. Moreover, volunteers will help to create a volunteering centre which will become a landmark for both local and international volunteering activities.
Volunteers’ tasks:

- To participate in the training session before leaving for the EVS. This session will be held by the sending organisations.

- To participate in the preparation stage of the EVS activity. The preparation stage will be organised by each promoter. Each volunteer will be actively involved in order to create a video on the active participation of the local community in environment protection , an impact study on the participation of the local community in environment related issues and a study on the traditions and customs of the local community. Thus, volunteers will interview the local community, they will raise the issue of environment protection and will analyse the local community’s willingness to be involved in solving environment issues. As they study the local customs and traditions, volunteers will also interview members of the local community and will do videos on the respective traditions and customs.

- To participate in the on arrival training, mid term and final evaluation of the EVS activity. Each volunteer will be registered in order to participate in the on arrival training session and mid term evaluation organised by the National Authority. After finalising the EVS stage, the volunteers will participate in a final evaluation session organised by the National Authority.
- To be involved and accomplish the specific tasks of the EVS activity. During the programme, the volunteers will be motivated and guided to be actively involved in accomplishing their tasks. The will be permanently guided by the project team that will supervise and council them for a successful task accomplishment.
- To perform specific activities on environment protection and ecology at the information point in Dragasani. With the help of Dragasani Town Hall which will offer a space in the central area of the city, the volunteers will set up an information point where they will promote EVS and environmental education. The information point will be open each day from 10.00 – 16.00 and the volunteers will have daily activities here for two hours. Using this information point, the volunteers will distribute flyers and information materials regarding environmental protection and education, they will set up photo exhibitions, recyclable art exhibitions, they will promote events and actions related to environmental protection. Periodically, the volunteers will invite the representatives of local authorities which will dialogue directly with the young people that visit the information point, encouraging civic participation and solving environmental issues.
- Greening the city of Dragasani and the surrounding villages. Every week, greening activities will be organised in the Olt riverbed, Roma neighbourhoods, Dragasani city and the surrounding villages: Lungesti, Fumureni, Stefanesti, Dobrusa. The EVS volunteers will be helped by the Romanian volunteers and local authorities in performing these activities. The greening activities will not consist in merely cleaning some areas, but they will also lead to promoting environmental protection and ecology. During these activities open dialogue with the members of local community will be initiated, interviews will be made on environmental issues involving citizens from those areas. The involvement of foreign volunteers will lead to a better understanding and desire for the local people to be involved in the local communities.

9.30-12.00: Activity at the information point in Dragasani. The information point will be equipped with flyers, posters, etc.
12.00-13.00: Lunch
13.00-15.00: Greening Dragasani city and surroundings. Promoting Dragasani and the surrounding areas as green zones.


Tuesday

9.30-12.00 Activities in the Roma community from Dragasani. Informing the Roma citizens about theirs rights, organising environmental workshops for the community, encouraging Roma people to actively participate to community life.

12.00-13.00: Lunch
13.00-15.00: Identifying and making tourist tracks in surrounding areas of Dragasani. Initiate outdoor sport activities for young people.


Wednesday

9.00-10.00: Preparing workshops about environmental education in schools.
10.00-12.00: Implementing a two-hour workshop in two different schools regarding environmental education.

During these workshops recyclable materials will be used in order to create new objects, role plays will be organised, self knowledge games in order to solve environmental issues. The volunteers will present environmental videos and photos. They will promote EVS and youth international mobility.

12.00-13.00: Lunch
13.00-15.00: workshops about environmental education in school.

Thursday

9.30-12.00: Outdoor activities with the students. Street animation for promoting the environmental education and protection
12.00-13.00: Lunch
13.00-15.00: Making flyers with the students about environmental education.
Distributing informative materials about environmental protection. Forum theatre performances.

Vineri

9.30-11.30: Romanian language lesson
11.30-12.30: Updating the project’s website and blog. Making a newsletter and press release about the project activities.

12.30-13.30: Lunch
13.30-15.00: Making flyers, posters and promotional items for the project and the EVS stage. Editing videos and photos about EVS stage.
Weekly evaluation of EVS stage with the volunteers, project team and the mentors.


Saturday

Social activities: attending exhibitions, concerts, movies, artistic events. Including the volunteers in social events in local community.


Sunday

Leisure outdoor activities. Sport activities , movies, trips, visiting the country.
