Resumo: The volunteer will live and work in Xylokastro town so he/she doesn’t need to take any public transportation. If the volunteers need to work in another place, they will be taken by car or the costs of the bus ticket will be covered. Xylokastro is at the seaside of the Corinthian Gulf in Peloponnese. The area is agricultural; there are a lot of lemon fields, as well as orange, apricot and olive fields.

Tarefas: The EVS volunteer's role will be to provide additional support to the staff at the program, working closely with qualified staff who will provide support and supervision at all time. The volunteer must respect the rules and the organizational structure of the host organization. The volunteer will not act as a professional figure and this difference will be stressed by and with the professional staff. EVS is not considered as a working practice. The volunteer should be able to accept the differences in the working methods and the cultural differences in the everyday life.

There are two Help at Home offices in the municipality of Xylokastro-Evrostini region: one in Xylokastro town and one in Dervni town. There are also 2 clubs of elderly people (KAPI) in Xylokastro and Derveni. The volunteer will be working in those services according to the needs of the host organization.

1. The volunteers will help the social worker in checking the elderly people’s living conditions (they will visit them and check their economy conditions, how they eat, if they need something for their everyday life, their living standard if it is right, or they don’t have anything from the first needs, assess their problems, and try to solve them etc.) (15%)
2. The volunteers will help in the assistants’ work (the role of the volunteer consist of supporting the assistants in the carrying out of the services, bringing the food for the elderly people, if it’s necessary cooking, help in cleaning their home, dishing, washing their clothes, arrange their beddings, put new bedding, ironing, give them help if they are bedridden etc.) (35%)
3. The volunteers will take part in the activities of the ‘club of elderly’ (KAPI)(35%)
4. Information activties (5%)
a. the volunteers provide information about the activity of the host organization as well as spreading leaflets and posters about the work and support of the elderly and disadvantaged people
b. about the initiatives of the organization: events and free-time activities for elderly people
c. about the goals of the “Help at Home” program
d. about the cultural events of the host organization as well as theatrical performances, concerts, exhibitions, seminars…etc.
5. The volunteers will participate in organizing and taking part in trips, excursions for the elderly people (5%)
The volunteers will participate in the work of the Information office in Xylokastro, which provides information about the Youth In action Program. For example helping in preparation monthly eMagazine (5%).

Horário: The working hours in the Xylokastro Help at home office is 9.00 – 13.00 and in Derveni Help at home office is 9.00 – 14.00. Some days in the week the volunteers will work in the centre for elderly people in KAPI (in Xylokastro and in Derveni) in the morning (9.30 – 12.00) or in the afternoon from 16.00 – 20.00 according to the needs of the KAPI. There is opportunity for the volunteer the same day to work in the help at home office in the morning and the afternoon in KAPI. The volunteer will work in total 30 hours per week. The volunteer in cooperation with the supervisor will organize the working program on weekly or monthly basis.

The volunteers should take the bus to the KAPI and Help at home in Derveni that takes 40 minutes. The time for the travel is not included in the working hours.

The volunteer will take his/her vacation: except of the national holidays that are free for everyone in Greece, the volunteer can take 12 working days in agreement with the staff of the Help at home office. As August is a holiday month, Help at home office and KAPI can close for 2 weeks. During this period the volunteer will take part in the activities of the Information office.

Condições: MONTHLY ALLOWANCE
Volunteers are responsible for the preparation of their own food, they get 140 Euro/month for food. The volunteers are required to provide food receipts for all the food money on the last day of the month. The receipts must contain only food items.
The pocket money is 95 Euro/month.
The volunteer will receive the first half of the pocket money and the food money on the 1st of the month and the second half on the 16th of the month.

Opening a bank account:
The volunteers will be assisted to open their own bank account and receive a card in order to receive their monthly allowances and food money in this way.

ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers live in a rented house. There are three opportunities for accommodation. All the apartments are fully furnished. One of them (flat1) has four rooms (2 double rooms and two 3-bed rooms), three bathrooms, a big living room and a kitchen with all cooking facilities. The other apartment (flat2) has three rooms (1 double and two 3-bed rooms), two bathrooms, a big living room and a kitchen with all cooking facilities. And third apartment (flat3) has two rooms (1 double and one 4-bed room), one bathroom, a big living room, dining room and a kitchen with all cooking facilities. There is a free Wireless internet access, phone for incoming calls, TV set, a DVD home cinema, a washing machine, a microwave, a toaster...etc in all apartments. The bed-linen is provided; the volunteer should bring towels. The volunteer should be able to share the room with 1 to 3 other volunteers and we cannot ensure the volunteer where he/she will be accommodated.

Volunteers are responsible for keeping the house clean. The local coordinating organization and the host organization have the responsibility to verify the standard of living conditions of the house in communication with the volunteers.
The cleaning materials for the housekeeping are provided by the host organization. Volunteers are also responsible for the technical equipments in the house. In case if any device is out of order it can take up to 7 days to be repaired depending on the problem.

The volunteers are not allowed to keep any animals, pets in the house; they cannot be noisy between 14:30- 17:30 and after 11 o’clock in the evening. The volunteers cannot host anybody in the house .The volunteer will live and work in Xylokastro. The local coordinating organization has copies of the keys of every flat and can go into the flat for certain reasons but always notifying the volunteers before.

Formação: Volunteers are entitled to attend Greek language lessons from the beginning of their voluntary service. The participation in the Greek lesson is obligatory.
