Resumo:
The Elisabeth Home Havetoft is dedicated to the reception/admission, accompaniment, support and furthering the indepedence of children and youth who need help in their upbringing. The home maintains a day care centre for children of school age, communal accommodation, a farm as well as various therapy groups.
Furthermore a lot of unaccompanied minor refugees, who are predominant from Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq, get accomodated here. In the Elisabeth Home all of them are supposed to find a "home". The home was established in 1900 as an institution. The sponsor is the Elisabeth Home Association(Elisabethheim Havetoft e.V.) The association is a member of the Inner Mission of the State (Diakonisches Werk Schleswig-Holstein).
We behave according to the principles of Christian youth work: accompany, encourage, further independence.
Perfil: The volunteer should above all be open to working with disabled people.
Previous experience is not necessary and it is more important that they are interested in the work and willing to get involved in this type of work.
Communication is very important in our work.
Tarefas: The volunteers are firmly bound into the group structure and take part in the group meetings. During this process they can join in and look for their own project which they can try, if possible, to carry out with the youngsters.
The volunteers can be deployed in the day care unit or in one of the living communities. Of great importance to us is the guidance on constructive use of leisure time. A large garden in the grounds of the Home with open areas, trampoline, swings, sand pits etc offer a good framework. The volunteers can support the youngsters with their homework, job seeking or motivating them to use their free time sensibly.
Additionally the volunteers play a role in support of the employees as a point of contact for the youngsters. Often their foreignness makes them a particularly popular contact who can help in a different way from a German employee especially concerning the integration of unaccompanied minor refugees.
