Resumo: (Elderly)
The project takes place in a special care home for seniors with cognitive impairment who require daily support. Volunteers will assist with activation programmes, group activities, and individual interactions such as talking, listening to music, or accompanying clients on short walks, always under the guidance of professional staff. The main goal is to create intergenerational and intercultural encounters that strengthen mutual understanding, reduce isolation, and build empathy. The project supports emotional well-being and inclusion of people with cognitive impairments and contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
Perfil: Age: 18-30
Requirements: Volunteers must bring a towel. Proper, sturdy footwear is essential; regular
sneakers are not sufficient for the activities at the project site.
Tarefas: The work focuses on preparing and supporting group activity programmes for clients of the care home, as well as minor gardening tasks to maintain and improve the outdoor environment. No specific physical skills are required. In case of rain, volunteers will carry out indoor tasks such as sorting and cleaning storage areas and supporting individual activities with clients, including simple activation exercises.
Condições: Transport from accommodation to the workplace is provided by public buses (20min ish)
Study part: A short introductory talk on palliative care will be prepared for volunteers.
The session will explain what palliative care is, why it is important, and how it supports people with serious illness to live with dignity, comfort, and respect.
Special attention will be given to seniors, their specific needs, life situations, and the importance of a sensitive, respectful approach in later stages of life.
Volunteers will be accommodated in university dormitories. They will share a room with 2 or 3 other volunteers.
The accommodation is equipped with beds, pillows, and duvets.
There is a small kitchen where volunteers can prepare their breakfast and dinner using the provided ingredients.
Lunch will be provided at the care home where there is no vegetarian option available.
Leisure time: Leisure activities may include visits to the historic centre, offering opportunities to explore the city’s cultural landmarks. Volunteers can also spend free time at the nearby dam and park, which provide a pleasant setting for walks, relaxation, and informal group activities.
