Resumo: Myllylähde is a village community with disabled adults. The members of community are called co-workers. It is a part of the international Camphill movement, which was established to work and live with people who have mental handicap/learning disability. From the outset, the intention was to do this work not as a 'job' in the usual sense of the word, but as a way of life.
In the community all work that has to be done is shared. In Camphill the ideal is that of a community life where each person, according to one's ability, contributes what they can towards the well-being of their fellows.
The community is based on antroposophist values and principles. They are expressed for example by a custom of giving thanks before each meal.
There is also a study evening that takes place once a week. Volunteers can participate if they want but it is not compulsory. Additionally excessive use of alcohol is against community principles.
Tarefas: The main work activities of Myllylähde are the biodynamic agriculture, animal care, gardening, packing of the agriculture products (flour and seeds) and weavery/crafts workshop where for example dolls are made.
Other activities of the community include for example:
- weekly "Morning Gathering". In the hall all the persons of the community meet. After a short introductionand music or singing together the week program will be planned. The Introduction the of the Gathering vary: it can be seasons, Agriculture and farming, literature, mythology, cultures etc. The volunteers have an opprtunity to present his/her own culture or personal initiatives. Weekly meetings are for all members of community and therefore volunteer's participation is encouranged as well.
- Other activities also include the evening free time activities, which the community does together after working hours. The evening activities can include for example various different sport activities (judo, floorball, swimming, etc). All members of the community are welcome to take part in the evening activities.
Condições: Accommodation is in the project. The volunteer will have his/her own room. Also the food is provided by Myllylähde. The volunteers will receive linguistic training throughout their stay, via a language school or private teacher arranged by the host organisation. In addition, the volunteer will have an introduction to Finnish language in the on arrival seminar at the beginning of his/her volunteer service.
