Resumo: (Open Youth Center)
The hosting organization is a subsidiary of other Centre, which operates within the administrative area of the City
Government, which means that our funding comes from the local government.
The Center was opened in September 2012 as a modern community culture center at the heart of Viljandi and its primary tasks include organising and developing local cultural life, youth work, pastime activities and creative economy.
The Youth Center goal is to provide different open youth work services to give possibility to organize leisure time and non-formal learning opportunities for young people aged 7-26 and on average we have approx. 142 monthly visitors.
We base our work on the principles of open youth work, the Youth Work Act, the minimum standard for youth centers, good practice for youth centers and we listen to the wishes and needs of our young people.
The aim of open youth work is to offer young people opportunities to participate on a voluntary basis in order to support their involvement in society, support entrepreneurship and coping in social life.
Through events, activities and hobby groups we create conditions for development and at the same time it is very important to support young people’s initiative.
We have a prevention function as we cooperate with different organizations in local area such as schools and social pedagogues, youth well-being specialists, police, hobby schools, library, local municipality, youth council, unemployment fund Töötukassa etc.
The Open Youth Center is opened 5 days a week from Monday until Friday 2 pm until 8 pm
We have lots of traditional events and activities such as creative school holidays, extreme sports competitions, workshops, city’s pre-opinion festival, children day, art festival Kunstikompott, alternative meeting places during summer, summer camps, summer working camp, work shadowing, hobby activities like skateboarding, scootering, BMX, cooking classes, media course and many more.

Tarefas: The volunteer can be involved in every activity of the youth center and of course you are more than welcome to take initiative and share your own ideas for the activities for young people. You will have the support of your tutor and other youth workers as we value good teamwork and supporting each other.
Getting a first impression of the new surrounding is very important to find a starting point, so
you will have more than enough time to settle in and to observe.
As mentioned, your initiative is welcomed and supported, so that you can express yourself in
a way that is familiar to you through various activities during your project. Depending on
yourself this can happen through many different ways, for example:
- organizing different activities for the young people;- communicating with young people on the open area of the youth center (we have a billiard table, table tennis, air hockey, table football, PlayStation, board games etc);
- preparing and organizing different culture and youth events;
- leading a workshop, hobby course or event;
- helping with projects;
- presenting your country and culture amongt he community;
- promoting ESC and other volunteering possibilities;
- communicating in a foreign language with young people, which would help them to understand the importance of learning languages;
- assisting youth workers in everyday activities;
- helping the youth workers manage the youth centers social media accounts and create content;
- writing regular blog posts etc.
Horário: The working day will be around 7 hours (working week will not exceed 35 hours). As you work from Monday to Friday you will have 2 days a week off, which is usually the weekends but occasionally we do work weekends when there are special events or camps, but these weekend hours are compensated with days off during the week.
