Resumo: (Day-care education)

The organisation
The the organization has a long tradition of voluntary work and being active in the neighbourhood, which is very important and permanently refined. As an organisation they run kindergartens, day-care centres, youth clubs and further social community work. Since 2005 Nachbarschaftsheim has been organising full-day-care centres at ten primary schools in Berlins southwest whereof five of those day-care centres in different schools participate in the ESC program. ESC-volunteers will mainly support the open and non-formal education activities in school as well as the full-day care activities in the afternoon. Together with the social workers and the children, cultural education, leisure and sports activities are developed for the young people. The primary schools all have a different
focus in their daily work.

The School
The school is located in the North. In this part of town there is a good mix of people with high, average and low income and of people with and without a migration background. Additionally to the traditional teaching the special
focal points of the school (and the day-care education) are:
- Sports
- Music
- Social learning and participation (learn democracy)

Perfil: Age: 18-30

Tarefas: The volunteer will work with a group of ten secondary teachers and educators in a team.
He/she will support with his team children from five classes (1. to 4. grade), who are located in one big floor of our house. The day includes three parts:
1. Assisting work in the classroom;
2. Lunch-time (help the children in the canteen);
3. Leisure time for the children with playing in- and outside, sports, projects (arts,
Music, chess, gardening), homework etc.
The volunteer will work in all three parts of the day.

Additionally to the focal points of the school are:
- arts,
- gardening and
- inclusion
- Possibility for creating own projects with the children.
- Possibility in participating in weekly team-meetings, parent meetings etc.
Over the year there are:
- many sport events – at our school and outside in the city in cooperation with other schools,
- two project weeks
- music events (December)
- a big school party.

Key facts for the volunteer position
- The volunteer will work with a team of ten educators.
- The spoken language in the team is German but many educaters speak englisch
and some oft hem speak polish, italien, ukrain, arabic, portugese, indonesian,
russian.
- There are no other volunteers in the project but interns
- The volunteer will work with a group of 20-25 children. In total there are 120
children.
- The children the volunteer will work with are between the ages of 6 and 11 years old

Horário: The volunteer is expected to work 35 hours per week.
- Working hours are from 9:00 to 17:00 or 10:00 to 18:00. but we can vary it a little bit, especially during the day-care education in the holidays. The most important working time of the day is 10h to 16h.
