Resumo: Velebit Association Kuterevo was founded in 1995 and their main aims are preservation of natural and cultural heritage in the region. The village of Kuterevo is situated in the mountain of Velebit, where it borders the Nature Park.

The main activities of the organization are the care of resident bears and the bear facilities within the Bear Refuge, which was founded in 2002, as well as informative and educational work with visitors and running the Volunteers’ Station. Besides that the organization works on preserving cultural and traditional heritage, and thus the integration into local comunity is an important part of volunteering in Kuterevo.

During spring and summer Kuterevo hosts many local and international short-term and long-term volunteers. In spring and autumn the Refuge is visited by many schools, groups and families, while during summer the majority of visitors are foreign and local tourist.

The Volunteers' Station is an old house, where volunteers live and work together, while the everyday dinamic is based on sustainable living principles (composting toilets, solar showers, gardening, etc.). Besides bears, volunteers are taking care of chickens, ducks, cats and other animals.

Perfil: The ideal volunteer for the project is open to new experiences and learning, flexible and adjustable to the new environments and circumstances.

It is a person ready to experience a lifestyle radically different from his/hers, trough working and living with other people who are different and in an authentically traditional local community which lives close to the nature and far from urban impact. Therefore, the volunteer should enjoy in spending time with local people and in living in a village, which has almost no cultural or entertaining events.

We are looking for volunteers who can cope with living calm and uneventful life but also working in big teams with lot of people around them and in very dynamic, intensive and challenging environment.

We do not have special demands for volunteers or previous skills or knowledge, but they should be interested in the bear topics, nature conservation, sustainable and rural living.

Tarefas: Volunteers will be involved in one or more concrete project activities that will be associated with the three main areas that the organization is dealing with:
- nature conservation, local community and its culture and volunteering.

The volunteer will join the team of EVS volunteers that have already started their service, what will make his or her adaption process easier. In general, here are some of the examples of the tasks on which the volunteer will be working:
Regular activities of the Volunteers’ Station:
• everyday activities (taking care of animals, cooking, making fire etc.)
• gardening – preparation, maintenance, composting
• coordination of voluntary groups during the summer season
• organizing events for the 10 year of the Bear Refuge Working with visitors of the Refuge:
• welcoming and guiding foreign or local visitors
• making souvenirs and information materials It is possible that the volunteer develop a personal project on his or her initiative that will be related to some the topics mentioned in the project description or even something totally new.

Horário: The working time is different during the winter from the rest of the year. In general the Volunteers' Station is open from 8am till 8pm.

In winter time volunteers will be working from 9am till 3pm. Since the period from April till September is rather active (visitors, groups, volunteers) working time will be flexible, but in general volunteers will be working in two shifts: morning (9am-12am) and afternoon (3pm-6pm).

Weekends will be free, but sometimes it will be necessary to work even during weekends, which will be compensated by free days afterwards. In total volunteers will work 30 hours per week.
