Resumo: The CEJ includes the region of the Northern Barcelonés, that is, the municipalities of Sta. Coloma de Gramenet, St. Adrià del Besòs and Badalona. It is located in the city area of Fondo, between Sta. Coloma and Badalona, municipalities with a lower social and economic level than Barcelona and Catalonia. Its population is formed by immigrants from the rest of Spain, in the 70's, and from other countries in the 90's.
We have ample experience in the programme because we are specialised in international mobility. We have hosted volunteers within the project JUMP TO EUROPE and we have hosted several short-term EVS volunteers. We have also organised several youth exchanges and a seminar with our partners. As part of our tasks, we have counselled different entities when applying for YiA projects.
Our aim is that the volunteers collaborate in the following activities:
" Promotion of the YiA programme among youth with less opportunities in our region.
" Link the youth policies and experiences of Barcelonés and Europe.
" Promote the YiA as a way to fight against social exclusion.
To manage so, and so that the actions have a multiplying effect, volunteers will also collaborate with diffusion and awareness campaigns of European programmes in English, in their language, as well as other proposals of youth and of concern for volunteers.
Perfil: The volunteer should be interested in European topics and in youth emancipation. It is helpful if the volunteers enjoy close contact with young people. Open to learning Catalana and Spanish language.
Tarefas: We ask our volunteers to help with the following tasks:
- give suport with all tasks in the Centre Europa Jove
- give language classes (English and other languages) to give the young people the possibility to go abroad (one of the handicaps is the lack of languages)
- take part in sensibilisation activities in youth centers and schools
- promote the EVS
- help to suport the international work exchange website
- open to proposals from the volunteers During the first month the volunteers will receive training on all topics as well as language training.
Condições: At arrival, volunteers will receive all needed information to manage any unforeseen incident, as Barcelona is a city with all kinds of facilities (from transport through public health).
Nevertheless, the mentor of Centro Europa Jove and the coordinator of Nexes, available for volunteers 24h/day, will help them with any support or urgency they need and they will organise to give them psychological and practical guidance and support, depending on the needs.
Apart from these 2 references, the whole team of Nexes is involved to ensure that all EVS projects are a success and that volunteers live it as such. It is important to remind that the team of Nexes is formed by professional youth trainers and educators, with a large management capacity in delicate situation and management of conflicts.
We follow the following strategy: when there is a problem, we talk to the volunteer to see if he/she can solve the problem alone or with our help. We try that volunteers propose a solution and solve the problem, so they learn to solve conflicts alone.
Volunteers know from the first moment that they can talk about all kinds of problems with their mentors or with any person in Nexes. To do so, we try to create a serenity, confidence atmosphere.
