Resumo: You will get to know how people live in the far North, and get to know Finnish culture and people. Sometimes it can be frustrating that people are speaking in Finnish, and it's also good to be prepared in advance since most of the youth house visitors are local and speaks Finnish.
On the other hand, Finnish youth speak and understand English quite well although can be shy to speak at first.Weather conditions in the North are quite extreme. In wintertime there is polar night season when we don’t see the sun for over a month. We usually have snow from mid-October until mid-May.
During summer midnight sun shines over a month all day and night. Summer temperatures vary between +5 to +30, and winter temperatures vary between 0 and -35. Working tasks include also working outdoors, so the volunteer needs to pack warm, water- and windproof clothes!
