Resumo: Liechtenstein was a very poor country 50 years ago. After the second World War, Liechtenstein
became an industrialised country and therefore a richer one. Now Liechtenstein is even more
specialised in the services (53,5% of the job market). As Liechtenstein is a small country but a very
active one, 38,4% of the workers are coming every day from the neighbour countries.
Haus Gutenberg is situated in the southern most community in Liechtenstein between wonderful
vineyards and close to the Swiss mountains. The location is easily reached by public transport from
the railway stations of Sargans and Buchs. Since 25 years the people in charge or Haus Gutenberg
work with the guiding theme "Finding the centre - live conciliation". Haus Gutenberg achieved a
good reputation in Liechtenstein, the surrounding region as a place for training and seminars with a
special atmosphere.
Since 2004 Haus Gutenberg is a foundation, which is supported by the state of Liechtenstein, the
municipality of Balzers, private companies and people as well as a wide circle of friends. Since 2007
Haus Gutenberg is hosting volunteers into the European Youth Programme "European Voluntary
Service".

Practical arrangements for the volunteer
o Food and Accommodation: The volunteer will live in a single bedroom with washing,
laundry and social facilities. A weekly food allowance is provided.
o Working hours and days off: 30-35 hours per week, two consecutive days off per week
and 2 days holiday per month for the duration of the project.
o Local Transport: A bus pass is provided.
o Language course: The volunteer will attend a group language lesson in Buchs once till twice
a week
o Training and support: The volunteer will attend all EVS meetings and will be able to
participate to all relevant team trainings. The tutor will meet the volunteer on a weekly basis
for on-going evaluation matters.

Perfil: "Profile of the volunteer:
-A mature and independent young person
-Language skills in German and English
-Elementary knowledge of computers (PC)
-Respect towards spiritual dimensions
-Friendly and helpful attitude towards course and seminar participants
-Ambition and Motivation to develop an own project.
-Organised and likes to work creativly and efficiently."

Tarefas: Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:
The aim of hosting a volunteer is to realise a new intercultural dimension into the training programme
of Haus Gutenberg.
The volunteer will work in all different sectors of employment in Haus Gutenberg as well as participate actively in organising a seminar on youth education. With the support of the mentor he/she will get to know the development of a seminar from the beginning to the end.

His/her ideas and suggestions will be considered.
Possible tasks which will be adapted to the personal profil of the volunteer:
o Helping with the maintenance of the house and garden;
o Helping in the Kitchen; the volunteer will get to know different ways of preparing food (e.g.
vegetarian, cuisine, cooking with biological products)
o Assisting the reception; the volunteer will learn how to deal with guests and different PCprogrammes
o Assitance in implementation of Seminars; learning how to plan seminars, meetings with
trainers, negotiation techniques, Calculation etc.
o Helping in keeping the contact to local organisations and people and their working methods
o Helping to organise activities with local people, mainly youth
Learning oppurtunities for a volunteer:
o Each volunteer will have a tutor. The tutor will meet the volunteer on a regular basis to check
on progress during his/her work. Together they will discover strategies for finding solutions.
o Furthermore an evaluation meeting between the volunteer and the national agency will be
held every month.
o Monthly a freetime activity for the Liechtensteinian and Austrian volunteers from Vorarlberg is
organised.
o The volunteer will be actively involved in the team work. He or she can participate in team
meetings. The volunteers will get a profound insight into NGO work. The organisation Haus
Gutenberg has a straightforward structure which enables the volunteer in getting a good
insight into different tasks (mulitasking) e.g.business management, programme and
organization arrangement.
