Resumo: Our Foundation has been established in 1991. We work with mentally disabled adult people, who finished their school and work in protected work-shop environment.
Our main goal is to give these people – we like to call them Youngsters, as it’s the least prejudist – purpose in life, to help them develop their skills, to teach them about life, and how they could live independent life, as much as
possible. We work with key words, as normalisation, empowerment, inclusion, self-determination, autonomy and diversity.
More than 20 years we’ve hosted many volunteers, who made a big difference in our work, each of them we cherish, and have many good memories with them. With some we still have contact, they come and visit us, or we go and visit them.
The Foundation operates a Daycare and Work-therapy Centre, where the Youngsters work in 5 different workshops (creative, candle, therapy, household and assembly).
These handmade products prepared in the workshops are either ordered by private people or companies or they will be sold on different markets. We have also opened our webshop. Besides the daily work we prepare, organize and execute various pilot projects, in which we like to involve our Hungarian volunteers also, and a lot of times we cooperate with the local schools and universities.
The Foundation also operates a Living Centre, where 9 of our Youngsters are living. It’s a house near the centre, and it functions like a family home. This is the place the Youngsters go to work from and where they get back after work, they relax, do their tasks and duties, help in preparing the dinner, clean-up, do dishes, so on. They learn to be as independent, as possible.
Since 2001 the Foundation has been working with ESC, we’ve sent and hosted many volunteers from various countries from inside and outside of the EU. We look at our volunteers, as colleagues, who play a very important role in our work, they change the way we use to think, they help us to look at things differently, with their own projects they leave their handprints for the future and for a kind of memoir at the Foundation.
Perfil: Age: 18-30
Tarefas: Each project period depends of the EVS volunteer, what kind of personality he/she has. We spend the first month of the project with getting to know each other, the Youngsters help with their openess a lot, so the language is not a big problem, and as the volunteer learns Hungarian it get easier and easier.
The mentor and the coordinator always ready to help, and so are the other colleagues, we work as a team.
The volunteer gives assistance in the workshop, he/she is working daily and is welcome to carry out own ideas and projects, as long as it fits in the life of the Daycare/Living Centre.
The volunteer is offered to manage the project, we give assistance and help throughout the whole process, and at the end we evaluate together.
