Resumo: (elderly people)
The center belongs to the Catholic parish of Christ the King. It is located in the Cologne district. This modern and spacious facility focuses on four areas of geriatric care:
• Residential home and nursing facility (59 residents)
• Home for people with dementia (36 residents)
• Apartments (80 apartments)
• Community center.
Our goal is to create a place of security and well-being for our residents. Our care and support are tailored to the wishes and needs of our residents. We encourage and support their autonomy, independence, and individual lifestyle choices, thus enabling them to achieve a high degree of satisfaction and quality of life. Our residents feel a bit more at home when they furnish their rooms with their own furniture.
We provide qualified support and care for our residents through our trained and experienced staff. The comfortable size of our facility allows for close contact between staff, residents, and guests in a friendly atmosphere. A diverse range of activities offers daily variety and entertainment.
Involvement in public life is very important to us. Therefore, we promote and support diverse contacts both within and outside our institution and work closely with local associations.
Perfil: Age: 18-30
Language skills: Good knowledge of German.
A positive attitude toward the elderly.
Willingness to work with people in need of care (including those with dementia).
Composure when dealing with behavioral issues resulting from dementia and mental illness.
Social and communication skills, a sense of responsibility. Ability to work in a team.
Reliability.
Police clearance certificate.
Tarefas: • Organizing leisure activities (crafts, games, cooking).
• Preparing breakfast and helping with meals.
• Doing small shopping for the seniors.
• Accompanying residents (to activities in the house, on walks, on short trips, to the doctor).
• Organizing parties and events together with the social services staff.
• Pick-up and delivery services: Bringing food to the residents. Shopping for small items for the residents.
• Assisting with moving in (furniture) for new residents.
• Preparing and following up on events.
• Transporting laundry and disposing of rubbish.
• Distributing drinks and filling the fridge.
• Posting and distributing mail and packages.
• Working on computers (Word and Excel).
• Helping in the laundry (patching, ironing).
• Checking the lighting in the house.
• Maintaining the outdoor areas (mowing the lawn, watering flowers, removing weeds and rubbish).
Volunteers can choose different areas of focus during their voluntary service.
The individual skills, wishes and needs of the volunteers are taken into account and supported.
Horário: Shifts usually begin at 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. Occasionally, early shifts, evening events, and weekend shifts are added.
International volunteers can participate in all activities and festivities, company outings, etc., as we value them as important members of our staff.
Volunteers can gain experience working for a large church organization.
Particularly in geriatric care, we can impart knowledge in various fields.
It is important to us that volunteers can meaningfully contribute their ideas, interests, and skills to our care.
Especially with regard to intercultural exchange, volunteers can enrich our work with seniors and add a special touch to their everyday lives.
