Resumo: As every volunteer will have different capabilities, different mobility, different support needs, every project will be different as well. As mentioned before, Grenzenlos' focus on working with disabled means that there is a constant need of knowledge and expertise that a disabled volunteer could give: as a peer-volunteer for disabled and non-disabled volunteers.
We offered in the previous years long term EVS placements and also short-term ones.
For the longer term projects:
One part of the project will be that he/she will be working in our office and gather information, do reasearch, visit organisations, speak to other volunteers and compose results of his/her research as resource matarial for future exchanges. Depending on the time of the year the volunteer will be with us, he/she will be joining our special events and current activities: during summer this for example would mean that he/she would be joining the short term international projects during which the integration of national and international disabled is one focus: he/she can help the team preparing and organising it and can join the activities when they take place.
The second focus of the project could be that the volunteer also joins other EVS Hosting organisations in Vienna: according to the interestets the volunteer has, he/she would be joining another organisation for one or two days per week and develop a small project of his/her own in this field. In this way, the volunteer has the change to be active in an additional field of work and learn more during his/her EVS. On the other hand, EVS hosting organisations who feel not comfortable enough to host a disabled volunteer for a full time project would have the opportunity to try a small project first and see how that works out. Hopefully, more projects for and with disabled will come out if this experiment. Which project will be available will be clarified according to the wishes of the volunteer and the availability of Hosting Organisations and will be clearly described in each application.
For the short-term projects:
As the EVS focus of Grenzenlos is on the inclusion of disabled and disadvanteged youngsters we also offer Short-term-EVS within our integrative summer projects. The projects last in average for 3 weeks and allow us to integrate people who are not able to do a Long-term-EVS because of their disability or those who would like to try a shorter project before applying for a longer one.
Within these projects we host in average 15 international volunteers from all around the world who work within this 3 weeks together on a common aim.
Main topic of these projects is the process of working together for a non-profit project or topic. There are a lot of varieties of projects, it starts from playing theater to do some gardening work in the ancient Vienna Augarten or helping on a childrens farm. Our short term projects take place whole over Austria. Important is the aspect of working together and learn things about the host country.
As beeing part of the MELANGE programm volunteers are invited to take part in free time activities together with other EVS volunteers in Vienna such as going to a traditional Viennese ball, baking X-mas-cookies. Also aditional workshops are offered by Grenzenlos f.i. on the topic inclusion, theater etc. EVS volunteers are also invited to propes their own activities.

Perfil: The long term project Grenzenlos without barriers is only available for volunteers with a physical disability. As our project will be very tailor-made to the individual volunteer, it is hard to say which profile a volunteer should have. We would welcome in any case volunteers that are open to new experiences, willing to try new things and to challenge their personal limits.

For the short-term projects: As in the EVS guidelines this places are only open for disadvandaged or disabled volunteers.
We would also hope for the volunteer to be flexible and to be open: we are looking forward to learn from the volunteer: he/she should be willing to share his/her experiences with us!

Condições: Special Needs
We are able to host wheelchair users, as our office is on ground floor. However, our infrastructure is not completely adapted, which could mean that not all volunteers can be hosted. In order to see if the EVS is really possible should be clarified with a feasability or preparation visit. In the case a volunteer will be hosted in our office we will organise the support he/she needs: either by renting a flat in which personal support is provided or by hiring professional staff for personal care.
We have had several experiences in the past with hosting volunteers in a wheel chair in Vienna and by these experiences we learned that each exchange is completely different. Of course, every volunteer will have specific needs for support and personal care and will have a different level of independence. But also, because in every (EU) country laws and financial support for disabled are different. This means that for each exchange the financial and practical arrangements will be different . During the contact before the exchange as well as during the feasability visit, we will have to clarify the needs and the possibilities for the individual volunteer and adapt the arrangement to that.
Next to a project mentor, we will also offer a personal mentor a so called COALA in order to make sure the volunteer receives enough support.

Risk prevention
In the grenzenlos the volunteer will not have the sole responsibilty. More staff members will be present at all time. He/She will receive clear instructions on what to do in cases of emergency and whom to contact.
The volunteers mentor will provide immediate counselling and support in case of practical matters or problems to be solved and act as mediator in case of conflicts.
Efforts will be made to help the volunteer integrate into the local community.

Grenzenlos staff will intervene and provide support and deal with crisis management with both the volunteer and host organisation and will in turn report to the sending organisation in the volunteer's home country, which, if necessary, will liaise with the volunteer's family.
The volunteer will furthermore live in a flat with other volunteers or in a student hostel. Grenzenlos always prepares a list of handcrafter who are available if an emergency case accures at the living place of the volunteers.

The volunteers will be provided a 24/7 emergency phone throuhg which, in case of emergency, the Staff of Grenzenlos can be reached.
