Resumo: The volunteer will work an live in the city of Magdeburg. Magdeburg is the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, one of federal states in the east of Germany, and the second biggest city in this federal state. Magdeburg has 250 000 inhabitans. It is a very old city, located at the river Elbe. Unfortunately a large part of the city was destroyed during the second world war, so the biggest parts of the beautiful architecture was lost.
Magdeburg developed into a center for heavy maschinery industries during the last century. After the economical changes, which where the result of the German reunification, a lot of the factories where closed. Similar to other cities in East Germany, Magdeburg, has a high percentage of unemplyment, which causes social tention and problems which are especially widespread in the parts of the city, which were built in the 60ties and 70ties.
In the last years the number of students at the universities of Magdeburg is steadily increasing. Also the cultural life in Magdeburg is very rich and active: theatre and cabaret are offering interesting and constantly changing repertoire, there are a lot of museums and galleries as well as different cultural activities, that you can visit.
During their time with us the volunteers will primarily be working in a project involving active work with media. This project will be carried out in the educational area of the institution.
The project is divided into separate but interrelated phases. Initially ideas and focus points will be stated. This will be followed by concrete planning of the project. During this phase tasks important for carrying out the media-paedagogical project will be stated. Afterwards the project will be carried out and the results presented.
Our main aim is to visually present young people's engagement and the needs, opinions and visions of individuals, groups or youth (sub)cultures in Saxony-Anhalt and Europe. Within this framework media products will be created, for example: catalogues, exhibitions, films or websites, all of which will be bilingually presented and which can be employed by various users (young people, institutions, sponsors, other committees). The volunteers will receive professional training and guidance in order to acquire and / or expand their knowledge in the areas of media production, project management, cultural/historical educational work, public relations and intercultural learning.
Perfil: We are looking for curious and open-minded volunteers who can work creatively, independently and flexibly. They should be interested in cultural, historical and political backgrounds, enjoy working in a small team and have the right social skills to engage in project work with young and, in some cases, disadvantaged participants. In addition, the volunteers should be interested in cultural and media paedagogy, which also implies a willingness to test themselves in this area and to be trained, even if they have no previous experience with active work with media.
It is also necessary to enjoy working with members of different cultures, religions and educational backgrounds. We would therefore be happy to receive open, tolerant and eager-to-learn volunteers who want to expand their horizons and who have the necessary sensitivity to deal with the respective categors.
As youth exchanges and independent productions do not always fit into the standard categorisation of workdays and weekends, the volunteers will at times have to work for longer than five days. It is therefore advantageous if the volunteers regard this style of working positively and take their days off after the particular project concerned.
Experience in the area of historical-political and intercultural educational work, photography and AV-media production are advantageous, but are not essential.
The project description and activity description are available to all potential European volunteers in the databank "Youth in Action". Interested young people can contact us or our supporting organisations. The following criteria are critical for the selection: motivation for the voluntary service, personal interests, expectations and ideas.
Tarefas: - development of new themes, contents and methods for the planned following exchange
- discussions with the partner organisations and making contact with new partners
- organising and accompanying the preparatory meeting
- preparing their own module or assisting in carrying out a workshop or leisure activity during the exchange
- involvement in the evaluation
Condições: In order to enable the volunteer to integrate into the EVS project and to assure the best conditions for a successful voluntary year we are planning the following measures. The measures are based on the Charter for the European Voluntary Service.
An agreement between the organisations involved and the volunteer will be signed to fix the objectives, contents and organisational conditions of the project as well as the rights, duties and also the responsibilities for all parties involved, and to avoid misunderstandings.
The sending and hosting organisations will work together to prepare the volunteer's year abroad. Throughout the whole project there will also be a regular exchange of information between the sending and hosting organisations, with clear contact persons on eachside. A common evaluation between all parties will also be guaranteed.
The volunteers will take part in the training courses of the Cycles of EVS, organised by the National Agency for the YOUTH IN ACTION programme, in order to prepare themselves for the stay in Germany and to have the possibilty to reflect on their experiences together with oterh European volunteers.
The volunteers will regularly take part in a German language course to acquire or improve their language skills. The language training is free of charge for the volunteer and takes place during working hours. The German course is organised by the organisation Auslandsgesellschaft e.V. and is common for all European volunteers from the different projects in Magdeburg and its surroundings. In addition, the Language Café (run by AGSA), a meeting-point for both native speakers and learners of various languages, offers a further opportunity for learning a language and for social integration.
The volunteers are lodged in a flat-sharing community together with European or national volunteers from our own or from other organisations. The volunteer will have his/her own room with a shared kitchen and bathroom.
The common living and working will enable an intensive exchange of experiences and an interactive learning and supporting process with the other volunteers and trainees. This diverse support during the stay is also guaranteed during the volunteers' leisure time.
In addition, monthly gatherings with all national and European volunteers will take place, where the experiences are reflected upon, the projects are mutually presented and co-workers provide inputs, when needed.
