Resumo: The hosting organization is a boarding school specialized in students aged 14-19 with both physical and mental disabilities, such as Down Syndrome and Autism.
The school operates from a pedagogical standpoint with the recognition approach as the central element, where each student is seen as a resource who can contribute to the community.
The goal of the school is to provide young people with mentally disabilities the opportunity to achieve greater life skills, preparing them for as independent and equal adulthood as possible, and to give them access to a youth culture together with like-minded peers.
For many of the school’s students access to like-minded in their free time has been difficult. Many of them have felt isolated and lonely. The boarding school provides them with a unique opportunity to make friends, romantic partners, and companions for life in a safe and caring environment. The school focuses on four main subjects: Glad Mad(Food), KREA (Creativity), Lykkeliga Håndbold (Handball), and Dyrelinjen (Animal Care). In these main subjects, we organize the teaching to the individual needs of the students.
For the school’s students, it is important to have daily routines and recognizable structures. Many of the students need verbal guidance as well as physical support to get through daily routines.
This could include pictograms, help with clothing, guidance in practical tasks, support in participating in the community.
In their free time, we arrange activities that we motivate the students to participate in.

Tarefas: We believe that having a volunteer with different cultural values and perspectives at our school will inspire and greatly benefit both our students and staff. This experience will help foster an international atmosphere, allowing students to learn about diverse cultures from someone closer to their own age. At the same time, the volunteers will have the chance to deepen their understanding of Danish culture, Danish special educational values through their interactions with the students.
During the school Day:
The volunteers task is to assist the students so they get the most out of the lessons. By motivating and helping students on focusing on the lessons, keep an overview of the students, and assist the teacher in ensuring that all students are engaged in the lessons. The role of the volunteers will be to support the teachers/paedagogs and the students in classes.
The school focuses on four main subjects: Glad Mad(Food), KREA(Creativity), Lykkeliga Håndbold (Handball), and Dyrelinjen (Animal Care). According to his/her interest it’s up to the volunteers to choose one or more of these subjects.
If the volunteer is would like to, they are welcome to contribute ideas or plan parts of the lessons. At the beginning of the school year, the volunteer has the opportunity to observe various classes and activities. This is to get to know the students and gain an understanding of daily life and school.
In the sparetime:
The goal is to assist the students in their daily lives. This includes helping with practical tasks such as waking up in the morning, meals, activities, and getting them ready for bed at night, etc. You will also participate in and initiate leisure activities.
