Resumo: (refugees)
The hosting organization is a nongovernmental organisation that defends the rights and interests of refugees and asylum seekers. We are an umbrella of 30 member organisations and rely on the support of many enthusiastic volunteers in Flanders and Brussels. The Refugee Convention, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights are our guiding principles.
Perfil: Age: 18-30
• Background in Law, Human Rights or similar field
• Understanding the situation of asylum seekers and refugees, and of the role of humanitarian and international agencies in providing to them protection and assistance
• Understanding of the role of civil society in migration issues
• Eager to learn and adapt to the Belgian legal and political situation
• Strong written and oral English skills
• Analytical skills
• Team player • Good listener, strong communication skills
• Proactive and solution-oriented
• Flexible
• Planning and Organizational skills
• Preferably multilingual
Tarefas: The information volunteer will:
• Provide basic legal information to asylum seekers at the Arrival Centre and other relevant places
• Monitor situation on the ground, collect data and prepare situation reports
• Contribute to capacity building activities of the volunteer group through trainings on all aspects of the asylum procedure
• Remain informed of developments in international refugee law and subsidiary forms of protection, as well as domestic developments in asylum law, policy and case law. o Translate these developments into trainings o Participate in conferences regarding asylum policy
• Networking with other civil society actors We will be selecting two people for the role, to start in January (6th or 13th).
Condições: The volunteer will receive a monthly payment (€973,33) for organisational support, covering accommodation and food expenses, and a monthly amount of €152,08 for individual expenses.
The volunteer can choose their own accommodation; many choose to stay in Brussels.
The organization will support the volunteer in finding appropriate accommodation by providing relevant sources (websites, social media groups…) where accommodation is published. Home-to-office travel will be paid; the office is situated just a 5-minute subway ride away from the historical centre.
