Resumo: Educational centre is based in a residential area which has got good public transport connection with major
parts of Vilnius and is not far away from the city centre. The centre has got a building that is made of two compartments
– one is used for the lessons – activities and the other one – newly build expansion for the afterschool activities and
where is based day centre for pupils and adults.

Impressions of EVS volunteer Cindy from France who was volunteering in this centre from the beginning of
September 2010 till the beginning of March 2011 (6 months):
„working in this school for disabled children is quite nice. at the beginning wasn't so easy as only few people are able
to speak english. also some children are not able to speak or even to move. so the first step was a long observation
process of the teacher work to indentify the needs of the children. but thanks to lithuanian lessons and the friendly people
working there, you can be a real part of the working team.“

Impressions of EVS volunteer Marisa from Portugal who is volunteering now:
This is a daily center for disabled children. The main purpose of this center is to improve the quality of life of children
with mental disability and their family. We are two volunteers, me and Filip, who participate and collaborate in different
activities with the teachers, for example in music and ceramic lessons. We support professionals with the personal
hygiene and eating of the children. During the lessons, we can develop new ideas and our own projects. Most of all,
inspire and be inspired with this new experience. EVS offers personal and cultural enrichment for us. A volunteer should
have this skills or attitudes:
- Motivation and interest to participate in the project;
- Responsability, tolerance and commited with work in Viltis;
- Initiative skills and capacity to make proposals;
Volunteering is based on a popular portuguese proverb," Do good and do not look at those! "And the bottom is really
what we should do. Volunteering is a drop in the ocean, but this small drop can make a difference, can bring a smile or a
hope, and so we can build a better world.“

Impressions of EVS volunteer Filip from Czechia who is volunteering now:
„If you like working with children who can surprise you every time or at least if you suppose so (because I also didn’t
have experiences with disabled children before), this centre is a good choice for you. But be prepared that you will have
to be very patient and sometimes you will be very tired after your work, on the other side don’t be afraid that nobody will
help you because staff of the centre is very nice. You should know that children have diverse kinds of handicap and most
of them have diverse needs as well.
There is an advantage if you start to learn Lithuanian, because not too many workers can speak English here (but
probably you would attend a class with a person who can speak this language) and the same applies to the children.
There is also possible to speak Russian with many people here and some of them also can speak Polish. But I have to
admit I don’t learn Lithuanian too intensively. : )
There is also an advantage if you are at least a little creative and active, because you will help with a decoration and
drawing among other things. There will be no obstacles if you want to use your ideas.
For this work is much more important your personality than your skills.“
