Resumo: The hosting organization is a noon-profit organization that was established in 2007 by a group of greek and international volunteers willing to imporve the quality of life of disabled children and youngsters living in a institution. They hvae been either abandoned or removed from their families and live locked away from society in a closed isntitution in Athens, where they face daily violations of their human rights.
The lack of stimulation and education that comes with living in a closed institutional structure (commonly mistakenly referred to as orohanages) as well as the lack of secutrity, protection and love that a family would provide has a severe impact on the mental and emotional wellbeing of the children and youngsters that we work with.
Perfil: Age: 18-30
Tarefas: Every volunteer has a different program, depending on the children s/he is working with and the personal stregths and interests of the volunteer.
However, all volunteers share the following tasks:
- in the mornings: activities with the children with heavy disabilities, who do not attend school (going for walks, playing or listening to music, giving them a massage, playing simple games, basic stimulation)
- in the afternoons: carrying out different group activities in our activity center inside the institution (Cooking, handcrafts, drawing, sports, sewing, english lessons...), going for excursions outside of the isntitution (cinema, bowling, playground, swimming pool)
- Sometimes: brushing the teeth of the children, cleaning and organize the activity center
- in the summer: going to the beach and swimming with the childen
