Resumo: Project Environement
The day-care centre "Kindergruppe Farbklecks" is hosted in 18th district of Vienna, surrounded by a residential area, next to the inner districts of Vienna. It's close connection to the public transport is an advantage e.g. for special journeys with the children to different places in and around Vienna.
The day-care's centre philosophy wants to draw attention to the presence of neighbouring children in their local community. Therefore the group joins public spaces like parks, woods, swimming pools, etc. which are the basic meeting points for a daily encounter in the neighbourhood. Furthermore we want to highlight on cultural events that take place in Vienna, especially for children. The continuing visits of those events give the children a broader impression of difference and diversity.
As a self managed day-care centre, we belong to the regional head organisation of self managed day-care centres in Vienna. The financial support comes from the regional government of Vienna and part-time from the parents.
A usual day begins at 8 o'clock. One teacher will be present meanwhile the 14 children enter between 8 a 10 o'clock. At this morning session making handcrafts or reading books are very popular beginnings. At about 9:30 the volunteer should enter the day-care centre and get prepared for the jointly care. This means supporting the children in their daily needs (have a supporting hand, help them at the toilets and by dressing up, offer them ear and speech). At 9:45 the second teacher will enter the centre and breakfast will start at 10 o'clock. After breakfast the group will go out to meet special places and activities. Before lunch, the group returns to the centre and holds up a common interactive circle, which draws attention to the solidarity and joy between the children and the staff. After lunch at about 1 o'clock their will be a smooth stage where children can play freely or could join calming activities. At the afternoon session meanwhile the group gets smaller the second teacher is leaving the centre. At this stage one parent will join the group by assisting the teacher and overtaking the leadership. Jointly the group decides about their continuing program that could take place outside in the park or in the centre till the closing at 4 o'clock.
This project is coordinated by Grenzenlos, which means that the volunteer will be integrated in the MELANGE programm, the EVS in Vienna in cooperation with the city of Vienna/wienXtra This means that she will have the opportunity to meet 25 other foreign EVS volunteers as well as Austrian returnees. All volunteers will be offered a leisure time programm, in order to get to know specifics about the Austrian and Viennese culture. There are monthly meetings in order to offer continuous follow-up of the volunteers and to offer a social event where current, future and former volunteers can meet. Grenzenlos also organizes housing, helps with finding language courses for the volunteers and offers a mentoring programm as well as help with all administrative matters.
