Resumo: The Centre pour le Développement Moteur (CDM) is a school for physically and mentally disabled children and adolescents, from age 3 to 18, in Luxembourg. It is located in Strassen (near Luxembourg-City) and is specifically designed, staffed and resourced to provide appropriate special education for children and adolescents with additional needs. The staff is composed of psychologists, teacher, remedial teachers, social pedagogues, nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, swimming master, social worker, persons in charge of workshops.
Looking back on years and years of experiences, most of the team members are very fit in accompanying trainees and volunteers. Inclusive education is also an important mission of our school. Our school provides individualised education, addressing their individual differences and specific needs. This process involves the equipment and materials and accessible settings. These interventions are designed to help learners with special needs achieve a higher level of personal self-sufficiency and success in school and their community. It also has other facilities for pupils with special needs, such as soft play areas, sensory rooms, swimming pool, gymnastic room, rhythmic room, room for the airtramp, teaching kitchen, workrooms for painting and pottery.

Perfil: Age: 18-30

Tarefas: The volunteer will work in a group of 5 physically and mentally disabled pupils (aged 7-9). All the pupils are in wheelchairs. She will assist the pupils of the group with a severe mental handicap to train the very basic knowledge. She will work under the responsibility of a staff member. She will cooperate with teachers, social pedagogues, nurses and therapists.
She will assist the pupils and the pedagogical team in the daily tasks and the activities, like theme stories on a sensory level. In different workshops the volunteer will help the pupils:
In pottery: putting the clay in the hand of the pupil and forming the clay together
In the rhythmic workshop: singing and dancing with the pupils in wheelchairs
In the painting workshop: holding the pupil's hand with the pencil to draw (as the pupils don't paint by themselves)
In the cooking workshop: helping the pupil to cut vegetables, helping to hold the mixer, helping to form the cookies, preparing meals from the country of the volunteer.
She will assist the physiotherapist by training a pupil in one to one walk, in swimming with a single pupil (that means undressing the pupil, putting on the swimsuit, showering and holding the pupil in the water and in reverse order), accompanying the pupils on the airtramp.
