Resumo: InformaGiovani office - 2 volunteers - 1 year, starting 6th of September
The office is the place where we organize all our projects and also run some activities, such as training courses, infoday, “fairs” of volunteering activities and internatinal co-operation organizations. Here volunteers will support the general running of the office and IG network all over Europe. This will give to interested volunteers the possibility to increase their knowledge about organizational management, project cicle and implementation, as well as learning about the local context and how European funding and initiatives can stimulate community development.

Perfil: The volunteers are not expected to play a professional role and therefore no professional skills or specific competencies will be required during the recruitment phase.

A first selection of volunteers will be made according to the CVs and the motivation letters they provide and than by means of telephone interview. Aim of such interviews is not only to get more info about the volunteer but also to be sure that the volunteer is fully aware of the content, methodology and context of the project he/she is applying to.
Taking into account the specific environment of the project, we will recruit volunteers who show interest on the specific subject (youth information and social inclusion) and who are open to get in contact with different culture and are not afraid of dealing with disadvantaged youth or young people who are risk of marginalization.
Also taking into account the fact that our work is sometime done inside the juvenile jails of Sicily and/or in co-operation with the social services providing assistance to families and young people marginalized or at risk of marginalization, it is our interest to be sure that the EVS volunteers are fully aware of the project aims, methodologies and activities in order to skip the risk of a burnout or disaffection from the volunteer side. In order to prevent any risk we will also run an evaluation of the emotive and psicological condition of the candidates, taking into account the fact that it will happen in a long distance condition.
Of course volunteers who show a specific interest in the subjects of the project will be welcome but no specific studies or previous experience will be required.

Tarefas: The EVS volunteers will find their role and place in the mentioned context and will be invited to join every step of our activities: in the beginning they will join our already ongoing projects and than, once they will feel confortable with italian language and get acquainted with our working methodology, they (if willing to) can try to organize and project new activities according to their own ideas and interests.
They will be fully integrated into the local and international activities we organise, either through participation or by being part of the staff; volunteers will also be stimulated to take part in International events (Council of Europe trainings, YiA seminars, etc) exactly on the same level of the “internal” volunteers of the association.
The activities specifically foreseen for volunteers during their EVS period, are connected to the two main field of action of the association (information and social inclusion) and are both local and international:

INFORMATION AND SOCIAL AWARENESS RAISING
„h Support the organization of information days and training courses on European programmes and initiatives
„h Collect and sort interesting information and news for young people and/or youth workers
„h Update the youth information database on the Internet
„h Organize meetings and info days in schools, universities and local associations about Youth in Action and Lifelong Learning and other Programmes of the EU
„h Support the organization of info days for social workers on the use of YiA as a tool for social inclusion of disadvantaged youth
„h Organize awareness raising campaigns about EVS among students and about EVS short term among young offenders and social workers
„h Participate and organize workshops with kids and young persons about culture of legality and culture of human rights
„h Organize awareness raising campaigns about the so called critical consumering, in particular about the antimafia critical consumering
„h Support the implementation of environmental volunteering activities addressed to raise environmental awareness among young people
„h Collaborate in the organization of local events such as inter-cultural evenings, exibitions, cine-forum
SOCIAL INCLUSION
„h Support the organization of initiatives addressed to social inclusion and integration of young people with fewer opportunities and/or young offenders and young people at risk of social deviance
„h Support the organization of youth exchanges in Sicily and to the creation of groups of participant in exchanges to be organized abroad
„h Organize meetings in the juvenile jails of Sicily with young offenders and/or social workers as introduction to or prior to their participation to international events such as youth exchanges
„h Meet responsible persons of local associations and communities of immigrants and other social groups at risk of being excluded or marginalized in order to promote youth activities as tool for social integration

Condições: Volunteers will be hosted in an house rented “ad-hoc” for them, following the national legislation on safety of private building.
The working office, rented by Informagiovani, is already fitting the law requirement on safety of working places.
Activities foreseen by the Service are splitted in two main groups: Information and volunteering toward social inclusion.
First ones will be run always in public building (schools, universities, juvenile jails, city administration offices) where the respect of safety rules is granted by the Publich authorities.
Second group of activities will be also run in co-operation with public bodies (City administrations, Natural reserves). In this case, some openair activities are foreseen and they will take place under supervision of specializes staff already experienced in managing youth groups.
In the specific case of activities to be run inside the juvenile jails, we want underline that the participants are selected by the jail social workers who evaluate the preparation (psycologica, cultural and emotional) of each participant and the possible risk his/her involvement can bring to the projects. In our seven years experience it never happened to have any kind of problem.

As said, all the activities will be run under supervision of specialized personnel and in safe environment, respecting from the formal and substantial point of view all the rules in the field of safety.
Risk prevention will furthermore start before the project starts, in the recruitment phase (by informing all the candidate volunteers of the environment, the working condition and of the social context and impact, in order to make them take a thought decision on their candidature) and by organizing (if felt needed) an Advanced Planning Visit aimed to give the volunteer the possibility to get in touch with the living and working conditions in Palermo and Sicily.
A big role in crisis prevention will be played by the tutor and, in general, by the whole group of volunteers involved in Informagiovani activities. They will build a welcoming environment both from the human and professional points of view, making the volunteers feel part of a team and a group whose priority is to build human relations.
Evaluation and verification meetings will take place every month in order to make it possible for everybody to express his/her feelings about the project running and make it possible to make adjustments or improvements if needed.

Taking into consideration the peculiarities of the project and its environment and taking into consideration the fact that it may happen that the volunteers are required to work in a high impact social and emotional context as the juvenile jail, we do envisage to host volunteers who show a personal attitude toward this kind of experience, also evaluating their emotive and psicological condition.
This will make it difficult to host very young volunteers, but if it will happen we will ensure their safety by making it possible that, at least for the first months of the project they are always taking part in activities with adults volunteers from Informagiovani and making the evaluation moment more often than normally foreseen.
Our group of volunteer do include also professional psicologists and this will make it possible a professional (but discrete) monitoring of the personal development of the volunteers, decreasing the risk of crisis.

Formação: They will work in a rich and active environment, shaped and managed by other young people (some of them with EVS experience) and addressed to young people and those who work with and for young people.
Volunteers will also have the possibility to experience a very intercultural environment, since the sicilian society offers an ongoing mix between different cultures and because many activities will be run in co-operation with schools, institutions and associations working with young immingrants, in particular in the historical city centre.
Volunteers will live in an apartment, they can share with EVS from other projects. Both common and private rooms will be provided in order to facilitate socialization but also respect privacy of all the volunteers.
The volunteers will manage the apartment by themselves and thus will organize their time, according to the project needs and the Programme rules, enhancing their personal growt.
Living in a close contact with the local community will give to the volunteers not only the possibility to fastly learn the Italian language, but also to “enter” the Sicilian culture, strenghtening the informal learning aspects and the intercultural experience connected to the EVS.
The EVS volunteers will have as base for their work the office of the association, placed in the centre of the city, but will some times move also, together with the volunteers from Informagiovani, to other cities or different areas of the city, in order to visit schools or other associations in order to support the planning and implementation of the information initiatives as well as of the voluntary actions organized by Informagiovani.
