Resumo: The open youth clubs is open-minded, open for all religions and without prejudice towards anyone. The youth clubs are situated in areas in Leipzig which shows a high percentage of unemployment and immigrants. There are many social projects for the inhabitants of the districts. Those projects are done with the purpose of creating a life worth living for all inhabitants.
The youth clubs of the IB are open youth meeting points where young people design their leisure time supported by the staff. Apart from games, sports and music job orientation and learning to lead a self-sustained life are important topics of the work with the youths.

Leipzig is located in the northwest of the Free State of Saxony. The city and its 500,000 inhabitants became known throughout the world in the fall of 1989 as the center of the peaceful revolutionary movement in East Germany. It is home to the second oldest university in Germany as well as serving as an important trade fair center. Around 1 million people visit Leipzig every year, enjoying the city's lively atmosphere and diverse cultural offerings.

Perfil: We would like to see the following:

interest in social work and some practical experience in dealing with youth

basic German knowledge

open personality, self-confidence and independence in working

ability to come up with ideas of his/her own, flexibility, creativeness and spontanity

regarding the own project, interest and some knowledge about the in the EU and its political and social implications is basic

Tarefas: The volunteer support the youths and the staff designing and carrying through leisure activities on a daily base. The Volunteer shall organize a project of his own concerning contemporary history in Europe under the title „Europe from past till today“. This project should focus the developoment of an issue concerning the European Community thatthe volunteer can choose according to his/ her interests. The intention is to provide a piece of work for representation in the youth clubs, that is dealing with conditions, background and development of the European Union. In order to teach young people the facts properly an interesting way of representing the history-project is required.

The volunteer will be busy within the usual working times, due to the opening of the youth clubs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.,in the afternoons and evenings. In case the project has to be prepared the volunteer might work in the morning as well. The rough plan is:

first 3 months: get used to youth clubs and learn about the daily work there, make a theme- and time schedule of the project "Europe from the past till today" and explore a method for evaluation

4th - 10th month: to carry out the history-project in the places of "IB" (additionally in other youth clubs if possible)

last 2 months: finalizing the project and evaluation.

Condições: The volunteer will stay in a living community with up to six other EVS-volunteers.

Formação: Getting to know the part of social work that is called „open youth work“

to learn about the organisation of our association "IB" and other institutions, plans, projects within social work in Leipzig

working on concepts, defining aims of a program/project etc.

getting used to German culture, language, habits, customs, political structures



The volunteer can take part in a language course at the beginning of the stay.
