Resumo: The association exists since 1921. In his changeful history it was always a place for affected women, girls and mothers with their children. In the living group are young women, pregnant women as well as mothers with children who are not able to pass social muster alone and without any help. In the Agneshaus they can find a community like a familiy. The work of the Agneshaus takes place in cooperation with the youth welfare service.
The main targets are:
to facilitate that the mothers can live together with their children, teach and support them in every-day-activities (run a household, deal with money and with administrative bodies)
to stabilise the mothers and the kids and incorporate them in usual social networks (i.e. finish school or apprenticeship for mothers, attend kindergarten for the kids)
to support the mothers on their way (back) to a self-sustainable life (job, appartment, etc.)
The pedagogic work is based on a integrated and systemic approach. Continuity and reliability are important points, espiacelly given the fact that many mothers have been lacking reliable structures in their lifes until now. The inhabitants of the Agnesheim share all tasks in the community and should take over responsibility for their own and their children.
Leipzig is located in the northwest of the Free State of Saxony. The city and its 500,000 inhabitants became known throughout the world in the fall of 1989 as the center of the peaceful revolutionary movement in East Germany. It is home to the second oldest university in Germany as well as serving as an important trade fair center. Around 1 million people visit Leipzig every year, enjoying the city's lively atmosphere and diverse cultural offerings.
Perfil: Attention: Only female volunteers are accepted by the Agnesheim.
We would like to see the following: reliability, punctuality, willingness to work with kids from 0-6 and with young mothers in difficult life circumstances (practical experiences in those fields is a plus, but no must), autonomy, team skills, willingness to integrate, creativity, basic knowledge of German.
Tarefas: The EVS project would like to give an invitation to knock down borders, awake interest in one another and get to know the social system in Germany.
The association has been hosting volunteers from all over Europe since 2005. The volunteer in the Agnesheim is involved in the every day life together with the women and children, sharing the every day duties as well as leisure time activities with them.
The volunteer supports the women in taking care for their children. If the mothers are in school or training the volunteer takes over the child care under instruction by the pedagogues. A facilitation according to the special needs of the children is important.
The volunteer can learn about the special programms for that and can try to handle them.
The volunteer also possibly accompanies the mothers in organisational things like going to the doctor with their kids or to administrative bodies, helping the mothers with their kids during those tasks. Through the contact to the women of the same age there is the possibility of unterstanding each other on the same level.
In the afternoon and the volunteer will have the possibility to design leisure time activities with the mothers (be it for the mothers themselves or for the kids). Own ideas and suggestions concerning the leisure time activities are in demand.
The volunteer has the chance to develop an own project, in which she presents his or her own country. This could be e.g. handicraft, music or cooking.
The volunteer is involved in the pedagogical and organizational planning. Furthermore he or she can get closer to the work and structure of the Caritas assication Leipzig e.V.
She can take part in a language course at the beginning of her stay.
Condições: The volunteer will stay in a living community with up to six other EVS-volunteers.
