Resumo: The hosting centre in which our volunteers will work is located in the suburb of Wroclaw, Lesnica. The centre itself consists of a
building where the main activities with children and youth take place, and other smaller buildings housing rehabilitation facilities for local people. However the volunteer’s activities will be predominately in the After-School Club (sociotherapy common- room).
Smoking and alcohol are strictly forbidden here.
Perfil: Recruitment process is open.
It is important for the hosting organization that the volunteers meet a certain standard to ensure a full and healthy project.
Our main criteria is to look for volunteers who have open and caring nature towards children, and who are emotionally stable
enough not to become personally involved with the troubles they might be going through outside of the centre. They should
have patience, strong attitude with a friendly approach. However it is important to remember that the volunteers, even though
they will be expected to be friend for the children/youth,may have to show their authority as leaders, which is not always popular
with young people. It is recommended to all candidates that any previous experience in work with children may be useful, but
qualifications are not vital.
We request our volunteers to be non-smokers, because we try teach our children that it is possible to live without any addiction.
Tarefas: The volunteers will have the opportunity to create and run their own workshops and acquire valuable work experience and
skills for their future. This should include experiences such as working as part of a group and being able to demonstrate to
future employers having been in a position of responsibility. As the age gap of the children is quite large (5-16 years) and their
standard of living is quite difficult the volunteers will have the opportunity to gain skills in working with older, younger and difficult
children.
Please, explain what will be the role of EVS volunteers in the host organisation.
The volunteers will assist the smooth running of the centre with local Polish volunteers. This will include helping children with
their homework and organizing activities such as sport and music.
Describe the activities in which the volunteers could be involved and the activities the volunteers could create in your
organisation. Give examples of typical activities for the volunteers.
The volunteers will work with children (5-9 years old) or young people (10-16 years old). The themes of the activities are the
same for both groups, but the tasks and the workshops are different, they are led in separate rooms and also the methods
are different according to the target group. Volunteers will also be involved in the daily running of the Centre, tasks may
include preparing food, cleaning, administrative work, preparing materials for workshops, taking part in workshops and the
documentation of them.
When the weather will be nice, volunteers will take part in outdoor activities (football, volleyball, basketball playing). Any
proposals of other activities will be very welcome. Sometimes there will be short trips to the mountain too.
Volunteers will assist in the activities which are prepared by the staff.
The volunteers are very welcome to integrate their own ideas and projects into the programme of the Centre.
