Resumo: Our organization has been active in matters regarding the psychosocial rehabilitation of the mentally challenged people. Our organization is a member of the "ARGOS" net for the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Mental Health. Also we are members of international organizations of mental health and social care like MHE (Mental Health Europe), ENUSP (EUROPEAN NETWORK OF (ex-) USERS AND SURVIVORS OF PSYCHIATRY) and Unlock (National Association of (ex-) Offenders). We operate a Residential Unit in which we work for the promotion of our residents' independence, the ability of self-care and the cultivation of team spirit. We also aim in securing the quality of our care and our residents' quality of life, as well as in lessening the duration that a mentally challenged person is kept institutionalized. We strongly defend the personal and social rights of our residents. Ôhe reduction of the social stigma and the social discrimination as well as the provision of a safe, therapeutic environment is among our basic priorities.

This year we have develop actions that concerns both psychosocial rehabilitation and prevention. With the cooperation of the Municipality of Korydallos, where our organisation is situated, we have create a telephone line that informs the public about organisations and mental health issues. Also we have organise and participate in events and seminars with the purpose of informing the public for matters conerning mental health.

Another action of our organisation has been created under the influence of the new circumstances of the economical situation in Greece and the affect they have in the European and international community. Goverments across Europe are taking new measures of frugality, that influences the economical situtation of European citizens.

Our programme aims to reinforce volunteers to plan and create actions of collecting data on issues regarding mental health, suggest ideas that will aid the promotion of the active European youth, as a creative reaction the to the international economical situtation and also to contribute in the promotion of creactivity as the mean of dealing with the difficulties of our time.

This new action is being added to the pre-existing ones, i.e the familiarisation and operation of psychosocial rehabilitation in Greece and also to actions that concerns the awareness of the communtity on mental health issue
In reference to the personnel of our organization, we employ mental health professionals of different expertise like psychologist, social worker, occupational therapist, nurses, and general duties personnel. We cooperate with a psychiatrist, a general practitioner, and an artist.

Our service-users are adults (30-70 yrs old) suffering from mental & psychological disorders, ex-institutionalized patients of psychiatric hospitals, who now live in the premises of our residential unit.

The voluntary activities will be based in the premices of our Residential Unit of Psychosocial Rehabilitation ANIMA. It is an open-type unit where the residents can move freely in and out of the unit, on their own responsibily according to the rules of the unit and in reference to their therapeutic plan. The personnel of the unit are moslty mental health professionals.

The factrors that contribute to the successful functioning of the unit are the team work of the members of the personel, the supplemetary nature of the roles, the social and not hospital type of care for our residents, as well as the overall atiitude of equality among residents and members of the personnel.

The Unit is situated in the municipality of Korydallos.

Korydallos belongs to the wider area of Athens. Its population is over 100,000 people. Korydallos is considered the centre of the wider area of Pireaus and West Attica. It has large squares which have recently evolved in local recreation centres and have spotlighted the whole of Korydallos area as one where people of higher income than the adjacent areas, live. Korydallos is a large, modern city. It has a big market where people from neighbouring municipalities come to do their shopping. One can find all types of restaurants and can enjoy night-life.

Moreover, Korydallos has 4 bus lines with frequent routes that serve all needs of transportation from and to Athens and Pireaus.

The volunteers will be staying in their own apartment situated near the Unit. The apartment will be equiped with all necessary apparatus for the safe and functional living of our quests.

The project will take place in Athens and especially Korydallos. The subject of the project is youth mental health, psychosocial

rehabilitation and activation of citizens as a reaction of the effects of economic crisis on mental health of people within the "Europe of crisis" today. The project will have 12 month duration. Suggested actions are the following :

-Affiliation with psychosocial rehabilitation as it is implemented in Greece today

-Taking part in information of local community on mental health issues through the Support and Information Centre and the helpline of this Centre - collaboration of ANIMA with the Municipality of Korydallos

-Collecting information about mental health issues of citizens in Greece and Europe especially after the appearance of the economic crisis and exchange of information about the economic and general situation of youth in Europe today

-Volunteer group decision making about the development of specific actions that aim at the enhancement of creativity as an antidote for the economic crisis

-Promotion and distribution of those actions to young, youth organizations throughout Europe & national and European mental health networks, as well as measurement of the results and effectiveness of those actions

Our volunteers will have the chance to intergrate themselves in a longlasting educational procedure. Through this proccess, they will gain knowledge on theoretical mental health issues and build up abilities on how to help mental health service users deveolp independent leaving skills. Moreover, upon their arrival, they will attend a weekly training programme on mental health issues. The volunteers will have on the job training throughout their stay in our Unit.

The vonunteers will have the chance to improve their communication skills by learning Greek (local language) and the use of English language which will be the main language of communication, at least for the beginning.

Perfil: We find that the most important criterion of the applicant volunteers is their sincere interest for the field of psychological and mental disabilities as well as social exclusion. Our positions are open for everyone that can demonstrate a real will to work against discrimination of people with fewer opportunities.

That is why we are looking for volunteers with possible previous volunteer experience. However, our volunteers have to be active citizens, to believe that through collaboration, creativity and open spirit we can promote Europe's social objectives and to have a will to get in touch with the Greek way of life and action - especially today, during the economic crisis.
We take the motivation letter and the telephone/internet communication under serious consideration.

For volunteers 16-17yrs old, there will be a supervisor responsible for their well-being and safety. There will also be a mentor to help them throught the programme and the local community integration. The mentor will be there to support them in every possible crisis or problem that may arise.

Tarefas: The first two weeks up to one month after the arrival of the volunteer are considered to be "preparatory time". During that period the volunteer is helped by the mentor to get affiliated with the new residency, the area and the organization. The volunteer gets in touch with the working group of the organization and other volunteers, starts the intensive Greek language lessons and forms a relationship with the mentor and the organization's people in charge.

During that preparatory period the volunteer has the opportunity to know in greater detail the entire organisation's activities and to choose those he/she wishes to participate. It is our intention and will to secure that the volunteer will take part in activities that are of great interest to him/her, as we believe that this way he/she will be motivated and enthusiastic about the activities.

Besides, the organization has hired all needed employees and does not have the need to replace staff with volunteers, but to enhance the staff's work through volunteer work.

Providing support to the residents of all three housing facilities mainly regarding their social reintegration and psychological training as well as providing support to staff members (motivation. etc.).

Participation on the internet radio (Anima voices) which will soon begin broadcasting either with the production of programs or its promotion or any other way they are able and prefer.
Support of all ANIMAa€™s online communication means that includes text translation in the volunteera€™s native language and continuous maintenance and updating with news, articles, pictures, etc. The means mentioned above are: site ANIMA, site EVS-VOLUNTEERISM, Facebook page, Blog ANIMA.

Promoting volunteer spirit: through info-days in facilities where young people of 18-30 years of age meet (universities, after school programs, vocational training institutes, parent associations, etc.). These presentations of the Action 2 program will be given regarding the benefits and opportunities it provides young people with in conjunction with a parallel presentation of the volunteers experiences.

Social Activism: promoting the concept of societys self-organization and activism through the concentration of the existing initiatives and the ones forthcoming, informing the public about them, and about the potential we all possess to be active and be a part of various citizen movements with the common purpose to tackle the problems we are faced with.
Spirit, Body & Soul (Physical, Emotional, Mental Health) campaign: participation in organizing and implementing events within several boroughs (mainly in Attiki area) in order to promote awareness in facing health issues in a holistic way.

Good practicesa€™ sharing on mental health: The purpose of this action is transferring a good practice from the volunteera€™s native country who will be participating in mental health practices in an institutional, scientific or traditional level, with ultimate goal its incorporation a€“if feasible- in ANIMAa€™s practices.

All volunteers that will be participating in ANIMAs programs (efforts will be made to approach volunteers from other agencies) will also be a part of the following actions.Europe in crisis: Keeping in mind the assumption that Greece is Europes Black sheep , the ultimate goal is to create a multi-cultural team of volunteers in which they will be informed of unknown aspects of the crisis, will then give an account of the crisis aspects in their native country through newspaper reports, articles, opinions and views. This way, an electronic jigsaw puzzle will be created, as well as monthly meetings where the crisis phenomenon will be discussed, along with its impact on each country, but the main purpose will be to wonder as far as 'the next day'. The basic question that needs to be answered is ' what next' or 'now what' ?

Rewriting history: The fear that the European ideal comes to an end, we believe is related to the attempt (wrongly, in our opinion) to create a uniformed cultural environment, which will abolish in a sense the national-cultural identity of its country members. To ANIMA united Europe does not mean fusion but the co-existence of nations, where each nations identity is respected. For this purpose, we decided that all volunteers will be presenting from their own point of view a flashback of their countrys history so that we all get better acquainted and finally realize our differences in the present, with no judgmental intentions.

Condições: 1

Formação: All volunteers will have a mentor who will be responsible for their support in any probable matter that may arise. The mentor will be also responsible for the volunteers' contact processes and intergration into the local society. There will be weekly meetings where all issues will be discussed. Additionally, volunteers will have a person of reference in the area of the Residential Unit.

Upon their arrival, the mentor will meet with the volunteers in order to form their educational goals. In the end of the voluntary period, the mentor will help them fill in the Youthpass.

While engaging in diffferent activities, volunteers will have help form well-educated professionals who will be eager to demontrate and train the volunteers. Likewise, we expect our volunteers to share their ideas, knowledge and experience and help us enhance the way we work in the Unit.

The volunteers will take part in activities that have to do with the daily functioning of the Residential Unit and that promote our residents' independent leaving learning skills. Volunteers will also deal with an alternative therapeutic model through private and group socialization activities of our residents.
