Tarefas: Examples of typical activities for the volunteers
The volunteers will be gradually acquiring the tools and skills for developing the activities in the different areas where they collaborate, always under supervision of the mentor and the technical staff. Thus:
¢ In the social area, with elderly
Planning daily activities and preparing material: reading, games, physical exercises, etc.
Programme of activities, enabling integration in events, celebrations, outings and daily activities of the Centre, as well as their personal development.
Talk to elderly people: they can practice language skills with them, listening and talking to them.
Help them reading and talking about the news: they can also practice written language reading elderly what they want.
Help with rehabilitation exercises, taking into account that people do exercises correctly, under the supervision of the therapist.
Help with manual work, they will participate in the workshops, with the leaders.
Help in the dining room with whatever is needed (drink, use the napkin, help with cutlery,...).
Go for a walk in Day Centre's gardens, very nice when the weather is nice.
Help them to move in the centre: bathroom, sofa, dining-room,...
Support to groups of relations, promoting personal abilities (talks,...)
¢ IN THE TOURIST AND CULTURAL AREA
1 .- TOURIST OFFICE:
Collaboration welcoming pilgrims and tourists.
Support with "pilgrim credentials".
Support and accompaniment in assistance or personal support of pilgrims
(medical assistance at the Health Centre,...)
General information about the YiA Programme to young pilgrims. They may write a simple brochure (DIN-A4, both sides) in their language for young pilgrims.
Collaboration providing tourist information to visitors.
Collaboration and support providing pilgrims and visitors with tourist brochures (Jacob's Way, Romanic, Roman Towns, Palencia,...).
Collaboration in tasks related with visitors to the museum, providing the needed indications.
Collaboration in the daily management of information Collaboration and support in the three fairs that throughout the year from the Tourism Department, April-Fair for Machinery and Automotion, Antiques Fair in July-August and Feria del Camino de Santiago.
2. YOUTH HOUSE
Support and collaboration with the activities taking place at the Centre , together with the Youth Technician:
- Collaboration with the Youth Information station IES Sem Tob
- Collaboration with the edition of the newsletter or information bulletin of the Youth Information Centre (PIJ)
- Support and collaboration with the implementation of cultural and artistic activities of the Youth Centre (Poetry contests, theatre, exhibitions ......
- Workshops for children and youth: cooking, dancing,...
- Collaboration and support in the organisation of events relating to the Youth Week, held annually for young people with interesting information, performances, competitions ... .. and where volunteers may carry out their own activity, showing what they consider most important about their project, country, experiences ,,,
- Support and collaboration with all sport activities carried out by the Youth House: Football, Basketball, Tennis ..
- Collaboration in trips and cultural outings carried out by the Youth House.
3. MUNICIPAL LIBRARY:
Once/week, preferably Mondays. Tasks:
- Support lending service.
- Support reading encouraging activities for children: story-telling, writing and drawing contests,...
- Support with different library tasks: reading guides, press, catalogue,...
- READING CLUB: Support, once a month. For adults, children and youth.
- Reading encouragement for elderly: volunteers bring books to the residences. Reading and talking about them. Once a month.
- Collaboration with the person responsible in activities: Day of the Book, Library Day, Christmas
- Library for babies: promotion of reading with children aged between 3 and 4 years.
July and August: collaboration in swimming-pool library activity.
Aim: bring the library near to the swimming-pool.
OTHER ACTIVITIES IN WHICH VOLUNTEERS MAY PARTICIPATE:
In all municipal St. Jacob's activities (summer courses, cultural trips, book presentations, St. Jacob's Fair, in July,...).
In training and promotion activities of the Youth Centre (entertainment, contests, cultural weeks,..)
Volunteers may carry out a personal project, seeking their personal enrichment and that of the organisation and matching the requirements of the Centres.
We want volunteers to show their initiatives, abilities and cultural origin, especially in entertaining activities, stories and traditions from their countries.
The City Council's entertainer will be the reference for volunteers for all activities. She has experience as mentor of EVS hosting and sending projects.
Activities will always be guided by the leaders and technicians of the centres, who will counsel about tasks, practical matters,...
Horário: 5 days/week, mornings and afternoons, including language training. Free days: 2 continuous days/week. Holidays: 2 days / month of project,

Formação: -Volunteers will know this region and its characteristics: rural area based on agriculture, social and demographic decline, climate (other than the usual cliché for Spain) and they will understand the meaning of the presence of volunteers throughout the Jacob's Way. Thus:
-They will meet a lot of people, pilgrims and tourists from different places, a cosmopolitan world in a rural micro-world.
-And the world of our young people of Carrion and its region. Young people under 18 are less and less due to migration to work and study. In collaboration with Youth House, Library and Secondary School, the daily contact with young people will be constant.
-And they will also know an aged population, the elderly at the Day Centre.
We want them to learn...
The importance we give to the added value of their presence in our community, especially for local young people. Their image, from "far away", Europe, a guide for reflection and other options for the future education of our local youth.
-Collaboration tools, personal aptitudes, non-formal education participating in the City Council's activities (workshops, summer school, theatre, youth centre, computers, activities related with the Jacob's Way, exhibitions, fairs, congresses,...).
Volunteers will receive a basic, initial training:
1) Social and cultural integration, coordinated by the supervisor of the project (daily life of the town, references, basic services, history, culture, tourism,...)
2) During the first days, training about the Day Centre, staff, notions about the abilities and tasks of volunteers.
3) Language training: In a language school, classes given by a qualified teacher, with individual attention and adapting to the needs of volunteers: 3h/week during 1/3 of project, 2h/week during the next 1/3 and 1h/week during the last 1/3 (this may be increased or decreased if needed).
Volunteers will have a mentor for all their activities and problems they may have. They will meet, at least, weekly. Being this a small town, everything is at hand.
Role of EVS volunteers in the host organisation:
Volunteers will collaborate with the staff of the City Council and Day Centre in daily activities. The following elements are an asset:
-Willing to actively integrate in the life of the town and the project.
-Cultural, personal background and positive person
-Multiplying role, as a fresh, young, European, voluntary person, relating with the pilgrims, local youth, elderly, citizens and involved entities.
-Providing new ideas to the EVS projects.
