Resumo: PROJECT ENVIRONMENT
The volunteer will be working in Municipality of Medvode. Medvode is a town that lies near our capital city Ljubljana. It is only 12km away. The centre is in the confluence of the little rivers called Sava and Sora and the intersections of main roads that leads to the Ljubljana, our west region of Slovenia called Gorenjska and the biggest airport. There is also a railway line that goes through Medvode (Ljubljana – Jesenice – Austria). On the surface of 78.5 km2 lives around 15,000 inhabitants, of which at least 10% presents youngsters (aged 15-30 years). Medvode is becoming more and more interesting city to visit or to live in because of its location and good transport links between our capital city Ljubljana. The city is also very close to nature - Zbilje, A marna gora and it is a place sounded with forests. Perhaps that is why people in Medvode say that their town is "Green Door Capital."
Our target populations are young people that are very special in a various ways. We noticed that we have a lot of youngsters that are part of different subcultures and are very creative in their fashion styles and ways of thinking. We have also a lot of talented musicians, so we offer a rehearsal place for 16 young music bands and talented artist. So we can easily say, that we have got a strong cultural and art section and we are also not bad in sports.
The volunteer would be working in:
- youth club Jedro,
- rehearsal place for music bands and recording studio,
- office place that is well equipped with video equipment and computers. That will give to the volunteer a chance to work with a computer and to communicate via internet.
The climate is similar then in all central regions. We have cold, wet and snowy winters (up to -5 degrees Celsius), hot summers (up to 30 degrees Celsius) and sunny days in spring and autumn. But sometimes the mornings could be a little bit foggy.
Trough Medvode we have good transport connections. Public transport, like bus, will take you to capital city Ljubljana in 20 minutes. You can catch the bus on every half an hour and the bus is driving until midnight almost every day (except Sundays and holidays). You can also use very good long distance bus connections that will take you to the nearest cities (Kranj and A kofja Loka). That means that young people are very mobile. There is aslo a train station in Medvode and conncetions to nearest cities are also very good.
Perfil: VOLUNTEER PROFILES AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS
For us it is important that volunteer will take his volunteering as a challenge. That means that he will be interesting into learning something new and contributing to the society. We would really appreciate someone who is a benevolence volunteer and would be synchronized with our values and goals of YC. We also want that the volunteer would be involved in our community and he could count on our full support. To make the transition from his or home to a new foreign community and country less stressful, we believe that is better for the volunteer to have a greater interest in working with young people, that is self-initiative, enthusiastic, has good skills for working in team, is sensitive in social situations and knows how to accept the challenge.
In our organization we have a lot of skilful people who love to share their knowledge and want to convey it to other enthusiastic learners. That is why an EVS volunteer does not need any specific skills. He just has to be motivated for working with youngsters and he or she needs the desire to learn.
According whit what is written above, we will choose someone that we believe we can help and contribute with him personal development. But firstly we will analyze the needs of YC. The volunteer can gain even more if he will be working in the place where he feels comfortable, welcome and thinks he can show and dose his bests.
We will form a special group that we take part in a selection process. This group will also work with the volunteer in the future. The group will consist of director, coordinator, mentor, employees, and our volunteers – that is maximum 5 people. Firstly, the volunteers will be selected based on their CV, motivation letter and needs of YC, needs and wishes of volunteer and also of our common values and wishes.
Candidates that will show an interest to work with young people, dealing with challenges that this kind of work will bring, learning something new, will be invited to participate in a second round of selection process.
For further selection it is important that we have common values with our volunteer (this significantly related with the organizational climate).
Our final decision will be based on our team consideration which 2 volunteers could live and work together the best. It is important for us that they will get along and will be able to cooperate with one another.
Tarefas: PROPOSED ACTIVITIES FOR EVS VOLUNTEERS
Our youth centre consists of a large spectrum of activities. Therefore, we can offer a variety of possibilities to our volunteer. In agreement with his or hers wishes and goals, we can teamwisely choose activities. That will allow us, to adapt his or hers work schedule and will make sure, that the volunteer will not inverse (he or she will have 2 days off and he or she will be active in the youth centre up to 40 hours per week). In the framework of 30 to 40 hours it is considered a language course and a weekly (or, if necessary more) meetings with the coordinator and supervisor. We are also planning weekly regular meetings with all teamworkers in our YC - together we will review what happened previous week, point out the positive things and try to find some solutions, but we will also discuss future plans - what will happen in a coming week. In this way we want to give to the volunteers the feeling of importance so that he or she would feel as a part of our organisation.
We propose some activities for an EVS volunteer. In the context of our club he or she can be involved as:
- working with young people and children in daily centre (providing assistance in learning English, to help implement projects with preventive contents, introduction of new volunteers in the daily centre, children's program manager),
- organization of various events (travelogues, lectures, panel discussions, film evenings, concerts and other cultural events, sporting events)
- work with new volunteers (supporting regular meetings with volunteers, the introduction of various social games, to help rewarding volunteers)
- program manager in the Youth club Jedro.
In the context of cultural and artistic activities, he can:
- development visual images of Youth club Jedro,
- work as a tutorial coordinator (working with music bands), recording
- be head of the art section (and the head of galleries at the Youth club).
In the activities of informing he can:
- inform and notify young people,
- be a coordinator of different work and cleaning campaigns,
- organize the events of debating on different subjects,
- be responsible for the image of an information tower (flyers, books, invites for different workshops...).
In the context of sporting activities, he can be:
- coordinator for sports events (for example: mini league),
- responsible for Walking tour sections called Zlati Gojzar,
- coordinator for sports activities.
He or she will also be invited to participate in creating our monthly magazine called Dlake na jeziku as a writer of a column or an editor or as a part of the design team. We will give him a chance to create and / or run his own project, which could be part of our activities of totally separated.
Horário: The volunteer will be working 30-40 hours in a week. We are planning that on a daily basis he will be working around 6 hours, but the schedule will be adapted to the nature of his work (which is determined by the specific wishes and goals of each volunteer individually). Some parts of the schedule will be determined in advance, the rest will depends od volunteer work (his wishes, goals, our agreement):
- workday will begin at 9 AM,
- every Monday from 9 AM to 11 AM he will be actively involved at the MC Medvode working board meeting where all the employees get together weekly and evaluate last working week and set the guidelines for the current week,
- from Tuesday to Friday he will have at 9 AM morning meetings with the coordinator (the point of this is to explore where the volunteer needs more support, some working advice and see if he is following his working goals),
- on Friday he will meet the mentor (for an hour or two hours),
- morning could be for project meetings,
- afternoons or evenings could be designed to carry out the project,
- at least for 3 hours every week, he will have the oportuinity to work on his own project
- at least 4 hours a week he will have the language course learning Slovene (two times for two hours),
- every day he will have the chance to take the break for the snack,
- every Saturday and Sunay he’ll have time off (or any other two consecutive days).
We have some strucure of volunteer's work but in the end is his choice what kind of work he will be working.
Condições: Given that we are plalning to host 2 volunteers at the same time, we were thinkig of renting them a double bedroom appartment. This way we can provide them enough privacy, space and possibility to cook. Considering food and eating we will adjuste to the needs and wishes of the volunteer. We think it would be best if they would choose food by themmselfs in the nearby supermarket. The nearest and the biggest supermarket is Mercator. There we will open an PIKA pre-paid account for the volunteer so he could buy some food and other things for living. He will get a card and when he will buy something the amount of the purchase will be automatically deducted from the card. Every month we will indicate the amount of the money we are planing for volunteers food and living needs.
The rest of the pocket money the volunteer will get on his slovene bank account, we will open for him.
Formação: Trough his work, he will be able to relay on a coordinator who will guide him in his activities and tasks. For that important role we chose our youth worker Polona Ogrinc, who is also coordinator of this project.. The role of a mentor / supervisor will be mainly in the hands of so-called "Right shoulder". The volunteer will have a chance to contact his or hers mentor in case of any problems. We think that the most important task and role of a mentor is in helping to evaluate goals of a volunteer and help him or her to reach them as quickly and easily as possible. Our goal is that we include mentor in the activities of the volunteer as much as we could. In that way he will also show the support. In this role we see Marjeta Bizaj.
We will also provide a course of Slovenian language. This course will be on other organisations or via private tutors. Of course we will take in consideration wishes and interests of the volunteer. We think private tutor is the best way to go – lessons will be individualize so that the progress will be faster. That kind of method is more flexible for volunteer’s skills for learning foreign language, his or hers precognition etc. That way we will have 2 volunteers working together, what will create a chance for them to do something together, to learn for each other and to get to know one another.
Documentação: CV e Carta de Motivação
Then we will contact them through Skype – we will perform a selection interview. We will design a set of questions for all candidates. We will ask them extra questions, based on their responses. Main thing we want to now is:
(1) Why do you want to cooperate with our YC?,
(2) What do you think how Slovenians and their culture is like?,
(3) What do you think you can gain from us?,
(4) What can you contribute to our organization?,
(5) Do you already have some ideas for your own project?,
(6) What kind of a person as a second volunteer would you like to work with?
