Since the volunteers will sometimes take part in activities with children, s/he must provide a police record free from charges or conviction of child abuse (sexual or other), this is a requirement for all people working with children in Norway.
Tarefas: We expect that the volunteer will develop interpersonal and social competences such as: Adaptability and coping with new challenges, team-working with colleagues, sharing responsibility for living together with a multi-national team of volunteers.
We hope that this experience will lead to the volunteers developing cultural awareness of each other's needs in a multi-cultural setting.
The language skills of the volunteer will most likely develope further, espectally through communicating, socialising and negotiating in a second and third language (Norwegian and English).
Through taking part in the regular activities, the volunteer's will be utilising their already existing skills, develop many new skills and gain valuable experience in organisation and leadership.
At all times the volunteer will be assisting qualified personell. However as the volunteer's confidence and experience grows he/she will be expected to take more responsibility for some of the activities.
A particular emphasis will be placed on taking the responsibility to developing a own project, where the volunteer's take as much responsibility as possible. The partners in the project will support this in any way possible and will encourage the development and implementation of the volunteer's own project.
Examples of tasks the volunteers in the borough can create by their own, will be the International Cafè who is a meeting place between locals, UWC-students and artists. They can make the food, create programme withj music, dance and presentations. Other tasks can be creative work-shops in dance, music and visible art, but also sport and otdoor life.
We will identify a mentor for each volunteer. The aim is that the volunteer's and the mentor shall meet regularly, at least once a month. Monitoring of the volunteers learning process will occur during the weekly planning meetings with the contactperson at Frivilligsentralen. A Youthpass will be issued at the end of the activity by the host organisation.
