Resumo: The five volunteers will stay for five months in a private property flat in Nerano village, close to the pathway leading to Ieranto Bay, in Sorrento Peninsula.
The Park would like to host people who are interested in the marine environment and who have a passion for environmental conservation.
This project is particularly suitable for youth who have a penchant for nautical activities as sailing and boating; and for those who love marine sports as canoeing, snorkelling, diving and swimming.
Many of the Park's activities involve outdoor mansions, beach activities and direct contact with the sea and its creatures.
All volunteers' mansions will help the Park's staff in the fields of:
- promotion and support to the Park's activities of sustainable tourism, as the tours of sea observation (snorkelling, canoeing) offered to tourists
- educational activities related to environmental conservation
- environmental monitoring, as spotting violations to the Park'regulations, and regular shift activity
- environmental protection, as coordination in the Clean Up Days, waste-collecting tours on the Park's powerboat

Youth who love open – air activities, who are prone to socialising and to establish social contact with the local community and with groups of environmental activists. Youth who are engaging in social activities, who are flexible, dynamic and able to adapt to varied social and environmental contexts; youth with a high awareness on environmental and youth issues.
Selection criteria include:
* passion for nature
* passion for the sea
* enthusiasm
* flexibility and the capacity of adapting to new environments, specific activities and non familiar circumstances
* open- mindedness and curiosity
* inter-personal skills
* sense of responsibility
* good attitude towards teamwork
* reliability
* interest in working in the field of social work, especially in the youth sector
We would like to receive people who have a passion for environmental conservation and with a strong commitment to make a difference in the protection of marine environments through our projects of sustainable tourism. Given the fact that we will organise a preliminary training course, it is not necessary to have previous specific experiences. Considering that the largest part of the Park’s activities is carried out in the marine environment, this working environment is particularly suited to those having a passion for the sea and for aquatic and underwater sports in general. In particular, this volunteering project is strongly recommended to people who have an interest in environmental conservation, environmental activism and youth activism. The project activities require people who are interested in learning new methods and specific duties in the field of marine conservation; this implies a desire for personal growth and a propensity to take up leadership roles, with the capacity to organise and coordinate with other people.
Generally speaking, the volunteers who appreciate the Park at its best are those who have a passion for open air activities as hiking, trekking, marine and underwater sports; those who have a good physical resistance to the physical fatigue from open air duties, especially so in summertime and its hot temperatures, given the Mediterranean climate; those who are able to adapt, flexibly and cooperatively, to sudden schedule changes and unplanned events, which are frequent in a Park covering such a wide territory. Moreover, those who usually get more passionate at our Park are those who enjoy teamwork in multicultural contexts, those who are motivated to learn Italian and who have an interest for the Italian language and culture, and to establish a connection with the local population.
Tarefas: According to the different seasonal exigencies, the volunteers will work in the different localities of the Park Area Marina Protetta Punta Campanella, which covers six Municipalities in the Sorrento Peninsula. The administrative and logistic heart of the project is the city of Massa Lubrense, which is adjacent to the city of Sorrento.
The conservation activities take place throughout the reserved area, while the activities of marine observation and other ecotourism -related activities as the albergo diffuso will focus on Nerano village, the nearby Ieranto Bay and the rural pathways connecting the village to the other human settlements. The concerned localities will be:
All the marine areas and the beaches falling inside the Park's territory; the Park's headquarters in Massa Lubrense City Centre; the Visitors' Centre of the Marine Reserved Area; Nerano village and the nearby Ieranto Bay, hereby including the annexed FAI premises; the CAI pathways connecting the village with the other minor centres.

• Being in charge of basic duties (cleaning up after public events; manual jobs on public grounds during the events and on board during the powerboat activities)
Internationalisation
EVS volunteers will stimulate the internationalisation of the local community and of the Park’s staff. This is particularly true for what concerns the youth residing in the villages involved in the project. International volunteers will ensure that foreign tourists- who are already present in the Sorrento peninsula – start participating in the Park’s activities, while at the same time this will give momentum to the local actors towards a higher internationalisation of their approach. The role of volunteers will include the organisation of recreational activities for tourists and the activities of environmental monitoring and protection.
The Park’s staff is committed to be on the volunteers’ side by assigning to each of them those duties which seem to match their personal abilities, their interests and their individual exigencies. For this reason, the most varied typologies of duties will be included in the project, from the most basic practical ones for which no specific competence is required, to the more sophisticated ones, requiring the knowledge of computer tools and some specific skills, such as a high level of accuracy or some specific analytical skill. By so doing, we wish to get to include the widest variety of volunteers as possible, so that all the social and cultural background are included and are given an opportunity to experience life in a Protected Marine Area of high interest, and to contribute to the Park’s activities while acquiring new cultural, social and professional skills.
The Park’s staff will guarantee to respect and to valorise the volunteers’ specific individualities while organising the job schedule and the assignment of duties.
Considering that the Park’s activities are centred on environmental protection, environmental education and environmental monitoring, the Park’s staff will assist each volunteer in individuating her/his own individual working pattern in the context of the Park’s activities. The adequacy of personal projects by volunteers will improve if these projects are designed by the volunteers in the course of their stay, so that each project can integrate personal skills with the requests of local exigencies. Environmental monitoring, the census of posidonia colonies, of Gabbiano Corso and of sea turtles; monitoring the pathways, the surveillance of the visitors, accompanying the visitors during marine exploration activities (canoeing, snorkelling) and during the trekking, the maintenance and cleaning up of pathways and beaches, the boat trips on board of the Park’s sea-cleaning boat “Battello Spazzamare”, the designing of social happenings for the residents of Nerano, the village which is a point of reference for Jeranto Bay.
Condições: Accommodation
The volunteers will be accommodated in a private property flat in Nerano village (Municipality of Massa Lubrense), where all expenses of water and electricity will be covered by the project. The accommodation is part of a lone-standing maisonette with a large external patio and consists of three sleeping rooms, two toilets and a common kitchen. There is a nearby bus stand where regular service connects the village with Massa Lubrense centre (5 minutes), Marina del Cantone (20 minutes). The flat is only a few steps away from the starting point of the Ieranto Bay pathway.
Volunteers’ classes and supervision activities will be organised by the Park, which will also ensure the presence of suitable staff, with a view of meeting all the volunteers’ exigencies.
The areas involved in the project are equipped with all the daily-life basic services (shops, a chemist, night/day emergency service, nearby hospital, a Police station) and a regular transport service exists, connecting the area to Naples/Rome.
The Park commits itself to hire an external linguistic assistant who, upon the volunteers’ arrival, will organise an Intensive Italian Language Course, of the duration of one month (total teaching hours to be defined), who will give the basic language tools to the volunteers, so that they will be able to interact in a profitable way with the local population.
Given the fact that we will provide an independent accommodation, we will not accept volunteers who are 16 or 17 years old. We will ensure that different sex volunteers will not share the same room.
Safety and security of the volunteers’ house and working environment will be always ensured by the presence of the Park’s staff; health assistance is available to volunteers – as for tourists and local people- at all time. The buildings hosting the volunteers comply with the safety laws. We will ensure that volunteers will never work by themselves and will always be assisted by the Park’s staff.
Risk management and crisis management will be among the duties of the Park’s staff.
A mentor will assist the volunteers for the whole duration of their stay. Beside the mentor, anyways, the Park’s staff will be present and, as all of them can speak English, volunteers will always be able to address them in case of necessity.
Formação: The project will also give them some opportunities to let their personal initiative flourish, especially in the field of environmental education and in the contact with tourists, which will be direct and unmediated and will mostly take place on the beaches and at the sea. Each volunteer will be given the space to convey the project’s goals and to motivate people to join environmentally sustainable tourism and to respect the sea and its shores.
For what concerns the activities of environmental education, this aspect will emerge at its best as the Park will foster the occasions of non-formal learning, giving space to each volunteer’s initiative, new actions and original suggestions.
Cultural awareness will be ensured by close contact between the volunteers and the local community, and also among the volunteering group itself. The EVS group will be highly multicultural and will be deeply involved in a local setting characterised by strong cultural traditions and the use of local Sorrento dialect.
This project proposal shows all the necessary assumptions which guarantee a profitable non-formal learning experience; furthermore, many more learning occasions will be listed at the end of the project cycle, as it is impossible to list them all here.
Just to give a last concluding example, the Park offers several educational opportunities thanks to its many collaborations with Universities and Research Institutes which are active in the study of the marine ecosystem in Campania Region.
The skills acquired in the field of environmental education by the Park’s staff will be an added stimulus to the educational path of volunteers. The differentiated activities carried out by the staff are precious inputs to the professional and personal growth of the volunteers: as many scientific research project are based at the Park, this allows a continued cultural enrichment because the researchers and their assistants put their professionalism at disposal of the volunteers who will be willing to assist them in their field activities- such as monitoring – and in the development of their scientific researches. Besides these opportunities of scientific education, volunteers will be in the position of assisting other activities which are more practice – oriented, from monitoring techniques for marine flora and fauna, to event organisations, visitors’ reception and environmental education.
