Brief description of the organisation:
The volunteer will be hosted in our Community, a family house for unaccompanied foreign minors and Italian minors which committed little crimes. In the Community actually live 18 male adolescents in the age of 14–19 years, with various nationalities (Italian, Rumanian, Moroccan, Tunisian, Egyptian,etc. ) and different religious and cultural backgrounds.
Inside the Community the boys participate in educational and creative programmes such as placements in schools, language lessons, psychological assistance, cultural mediation, promotion of intercultural dialogue, development with family of origin, juridical assistance, guiding to develop self-management, assistance in job search and placement possibilities, organization of events and initiatives in order to create awareness among the local territory about themes such as minor’s rights, intercultural dialogue, friendship between populations, international cooperation.
The community works since last year with EVS volunteers and is therefore familiar with young volunteers, their necessities and the opportunities. There will be hosted 2 volunteers from 2 different European countries. They will live outside the community together in an apartment in a village nearby the community. The community is situated in an isolated village at 45min drive from Pavia, the nearest big town (80.000 inhabitants).
Perfil: Some elements that will help to realize a positive EVS experience:
- some verbal knowledge of the Italian language, which will enable a minimum of comprehension / communication between the volunteer, the habitants (minors) and the educators (of course the volunteer will have the possibility to follow an Italian language course).
- better if not too young, which helps the volunteer to develop a pedagogic relation towards the minors in age between 14 and 19 years.
- strong interest for social, psychological and pedagogical matters
- eventual interest or competences regarding some of the professional areas of the Workshops: cooking and taste education, biological agriculture, ICT, bicycle reparation, carpentry, keeping little farm animals
- eventual competences regarding the possibility to organise creative and art workshops about music, photography, video, painting, theatre etc.
- availability to live in a rural area. The nearest, but important cities are Pavia at 45 km (with one of the most ancient Universities in Europe) and art cities as Vigevano and Alessandria at 40 km. (45 minutes by car).
- driving licence
None of these elements will be considered obligatory; the volunteer will be selected regarding his or her complete professional and personal profile.
Tarefas: Proposed activities for the volunteers:
- assisting at the educational activities during the day, school assistance, transport
- participation in the weekly team meetings and in the periodical supervising
- participation in the training sessions for the educators
- assisting the activities carried out during the various workshops
- participating at / or organising the creative workshops
- collaborating during the daily housework
- collaborating during the organization of events and awareness initiatives about themes such as minor’s rights, intercultural dialogue, friendship between populations, international cooperation
Horário: With the volunteers will be weekly agreed about their activity schedule from Monday till Friday, which could be from 8.00 till 15.00 h and from 15.00 till 23.00 h.
