Resumo: This European Solidarity Corps project is all about youth work. The Youth Services is the main provider of youth work in the city. As a municipal operator it provides activities and support for youth mostly in their free time. The target group is youth aged 9-29. As a volunteer you’ll have a chance to be at the heart of meaningful work that affects thousands of young people.
The city is one of the biggest city in Finland with a population of about 250 000. It has also been selected as the country’s most attractive city. The city is surrounded by two big lakes that are linked by rapids crossing the city center. The city is known for its exceptional number of public saunas and fast development in infrastructure. There’s always something happening, like the Ice Hockey World Championships, music festivals, art exhibitions and other events. In case you want to see more of Finland during your stay, it is very easy to take a train or a bus anywhere, even all the way to Lapland!
Perfil: Age: 18-30
We are looking for two volunteers who want to learn about youth work and its forms. You don’t have to have experience of working with youth, but we expect you to have an interest in youth work and young people. Your tasks can be modified based on your interests. We look for people that are flexible and willing to challenge themselves. We appreciate a good sense of humor and the ability to laugh at yourself!
Volunteers will have adequate support to learn about Finnish youth work with the support of professionals.
Tarefas: The tasks of the project include organizing different kinds of activities, working in events and youth centers and leading youth groups with special themes. The project includes working in the evenings and on weekends. You will be working in different locations and closely with the other ESC volunteer and youth workers.
Some examples of what your typical day would look like:
Day 1, 9am-4pm: Planning the week ahead, preparing materials, leading a hobby group.
Day 2, 9am-4pm: Youth work at middle school, includes e.g. activities for breaks and theme lessons.
Day 3, 3pm-10pm: Working at a youth center by playing and spending time with young people
Condições: As an ESC volunteer you will share a student apartment with another volunteer. You will share kitchen and lavatory, but you’ll have your own room. You will also have access to a common room and a common sauna. The apartment is located close to a tram station and several bus stops, so going to the city center and other locations is easy.
