Resumo: The Thünenstrasse day-care centre can be found in the North of Leipzig (Gohlis), and cares for 13 toddlers aged between 1 and 3 years old, alongside with 33 children of the kindergarten-age (up to the age of 6) .The 2 big gardens (ca. 2.200 cm) have a lot of trees, herbs and vegatables beds at disposal. There are also some play equipments, like a climbing frame and climbing nets, spring animals and sandpits, and the natural nooks, a football ground and a sledge hill offer also a variety of outdoor sports activities.Six pre-school teachers work in the centre together with 2 technical staff. It is open between 6.00 and 17.00.
Leipzig is the second largest city in the federal state of Saxony, with approximately 500,000 inhabitants. The economy has converted since the reunification of East and West Germany from a reliance on the brown coal and textile industries, to services, such as banking, tourism and the world-famous Leipzig trade fair. The local car industry has also been replaced by a Porche and BMW factory. The infrastructure of Leipzig, railways, motorways and and airport, means that the city is well connected and easy to reach. Although Leipzig was first established in 1165, it is a young city, with many world famous centres of higher education. The art college, Leipzig University and the music college for example, attract young people from all over, who want to study here in the city. For free time, culture and art, Leipzig also offers many museums, opera, theatres, cafes, restaurants, discos and cinemas as well as canals, parks and lakes in the surrounds of the city.
We have worked with volunteers in our project since 2005. We have had a volunteer from France, the Czeck Republik, Rumania and Latvia.Until the end of September 2011, a young man from Luxemburg will be doing his European voluntary sevice with us. So far, we have had very good experiences with volunteers, and we hope that we will continue to do so in the future.

Perfil: The following points are particularly relevant for the selection of the volunteer:
- Interest in working with children
- creativity
- sociable charachter and the ability to work as part of a team
- interest in learning German, and getting to know Leipzig and the surrounding area
We are open to all young people who would like to take part in the European Voluntary Scheme, and we dont
have any special preferences concerning the sending organisation.
After we have recieved all of the applications, they will be checked over reviewed with reference to the qualities
and qualifications of the applicants. We will conduct an interview over the telephone, or if possible face to face,
to give both sides the opportunity to get to know eachother and ask questions, enabling us to reach a decision

Tarefas: The volunteer first should learn about the association and get to know the employees. He/she will get a presentation of the project and a visit of the place where the project is located. The volunteer must integrate into the kindergarten team as well as in the daily life of the kindergarten. This means that he will plan together with one the educators his/her year in the kindergarten and join one of the goup's daily life in the kindergarten. In addition to the daily routines (such as shared meals, bedtimes and rituals), pedagogical activities must be implemented. Public and religious holidays are celebrated according to the calendar (Easter, Halloween, Martin's day, Christmas, birthdays). These celebrations give a great opportunity to the volunteer to bring in typical customs from his/her own country. The focus of this kindergarten lies on the interculturality because a high percentage of the kids are from other cultural backgrounds (Vietnam, Pakistan and other). The kindergartens encourages kids and parents to bring the cultural background into the kindergarten and share it with the others. Once again, the volunteer can use this opportunity to bring his/her own ideas and skills in. In summary, we can say that the volunteer has the following duties and opportunities to learn:
-Understand the structure and the ways the association works
-get to know how the organisation's network (which part is also this kindergarten) functions
-get to know the daily life in a kindergarten
- develop own small projects with a relation to EU and cultural diversity
-integrate in a team
-explore the cultural attractions in Leipzig
-dealing with media technology
