Resumo: This family centre is a non profit/non governmental organization, set up in 2007 by volunteering mothers in order to fill the gap in services for young families. Three years later the centre became professionalized and evolved into a very busy place offering wide range of leisure time and educational activities for adults, children and the youth as well as whole families.

The centre is based in the town Uherske Hradiste, located in southeastern part of the Czech Republic. Town of approximately 26 thousand inhabitans, founded in 1257, is a regional centre of substantial importance, both in history and present days. The centre Akropolis is open every working day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., twice or three times a month also at weekends.

Aims: allow parents on parental leave the possibility of self-fulfillment; support families by organizing events designed for entire families; offer a variety of ways for adults, children and young people to spend their spare time in a way they find enriching; contribute to life-long education via discussions, seminars and lectures

Target groups: age 0 – 50+ years old – depends on activity, mainly women, but we try hard to get involved more men :)
- parents on parental leave or parents of small children
- families
- children and young people
- adults

Activities: workout exercises (aerobics, yoga, callanetics, Pilates), language classes (English, Spanish, German, Russian), cultural events (discussions about art, support of traditions and crafts, theatre plays), drawing classes (art therapy, right brain hemisphere painting, oil painting etc.), educational classes (child-rearring, preparation for parenthood, sign language for infants, pre-school preparation, fengshui, healthy lifestyle etc.), moms-and-dads’ club, eco-club (environmental activities, health food, waste sorting, ecohousehold), nutritional guidance etc.

Perfil: As a family centre we are looking for a volunteer who is friendly, easy to get along with, communicative, open-minded and enjoys working with people, both children and parents; previous experience with such work would be welcome (especially work with children)
- ability to communicate in English would be very helpful (some people working in centre speak also German and Spanish too)
- we presume that the volunteer will be knowledgeable about his or her country and its culture and traditions so that they could pass this information on; they should also be outgoing and enjoy such exchange of information
- active and responsible approach to work coupled with creativity
- the family centre is open to everybody regardless of gender, race, religious affiliation or sexual orientation; when choosing a volunteer we will only take into consideration his or her personal qualities and whether or not they comply with the above conditions
- we appreciate a volunteer experiented by a non-profit organization working with people (preferably families) such as a family centre (which would also create opportunities for exchange stays) or an environmental or cultural organization; but not necessarily, a different kind of organization would be fine as long as the volunteer fits into our plans and intentions.

Tarefas: - The volunteer will be involved in the entire operation of the organization. They will be given opportunities to work to the best of their abilities and they will have the support of the staff while doing so. The potential for their self-fulfillment will not be restricted and neither will be the potential for selfeducation and learning.
- They will be made familiar with all the activities of the family center and all the people who participate in them or cooperate with the centre.
- The plan for their activities will be made according to their interests and experience. They will be able to choose between children's activities (exercise, education, drawing, theater etc.), those for adults (workouts, painting, arts, environment, language classes etc.) or family-oriented ones (cultural, educational etc.) There are about 4 - 12 people in a class - depends on activity.
- They will work together with the centre staff (planning the activities and organizing them, day-to-day tasks) as well as with the instructors (children, adults, families). The extent to which they will participate will match each volunteer's experience and interests.
- Each volunteer will be given sufficient space to design and implement their own ideas that will tie in with the centre's activitities. They will be allowed to bring in their own ideas to expand or enrich the centre's operation.

Examples of involvement:
- Working with the instructor of the 'Play with English' language classes so that the kids get to communicate with a foreigner. Preparation of short public performances with an active involvement by the volunteer.
- Working with the instructors of workout exercises, during which the volunteer will explain how these activities tend to be carried out in his or her homeland and will be enlightened about the way they are organized at Akropolis (MTV aerobics, Zumba, Bossa aerobic, Pilates etc.).
- Involvement in the ECOniche - environment, including the exchange of information about eco-households, waste sorting and health food.
- Participation in weekend cultural events for entire families, which will allow the volunteer to meet various personalities famous both locally and nationally, as well as become more knowledgeable about the region's cultural life, including music, crafts and filmmaking.
- Exchange of information about pro-family politics in our respective countries; how each country helps families with small children coordinate their family and professional lives; the possibility of compiling a study on this topic to suggest how new elements could be applied in the Czech Republic
- In their spare time, volunteers would be encouraged to make themselves more familiar with the culture of the region and its monuments and sights, both historical and natural, as well as its traditions. They would participate in major events of all kinds and interact both with the community around the family centre and outsiders.
