Resumo: «Intercultural Learning with Youth and Children in Need” is the title of the project in which 3 young volunteers from Portugal are going to take part in a short term European Voluntary Service in Moldova. The service will last for 3 months from June 2012. ProAtlantico will be the sending organization and Association Children’s Friendswill be the host. ASSOCIATION CHILDREN’S FRIENDS operates in the field of children's rights protection on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Their main goals are to prevent the abandoning of children by their families and to prevent the scholar abandoning, to develop the social and human potential, to protect the rights and interests of children, to reintegrate the children in families.
The volunteers will help with realization of the objectives of the host organization and will gain experience in connection with organizing and developing activities for the beneficiaries of the hosting projects that will enrich her language skills, comunication abilities, understanding and will foster intercultural learning for all the parts.
Perfil: The main recruitment criteria for the project at ASSOCIATION CHILDREN’S FRIENDS are the following:
- Sociable, patient, flexible;
- Willing to learn local language;
- Able to work independently and in a team, willing to take initiative;
- Ready to take into consideration some particularities of victims of trafficking and domestic violence (psychological dispositions);
The volunteer will not substitute paid staff and will never be alone in carrying out her service, as the staff and the tutor will always support them. The volunteers will never have the responsibility for the beneficiaries’ behavior or actions.
The project is open to new ideas and interests of the volunteer that will help her to develop sense of creativity and apply and develop her skills and interests.
Tarefas: Volunteers will be helping in the hosting project ASSOCIATION CHILDREN’S FRIENDS.
Volunteers will be proposed to support the association in the following activities:
- stimulation for babies and severely disabled children (play room, music, walks inside the institution or just physical contact),
- physical education or sports, cooking lessons, English language workshop, social integration,
entertainment (organizing parties, or a festival etc),
- artistic expression (painting, handicraft, singing, dance, etc), excursions,
- fund-raising to sponsor activities with the children,
- any other activity in accordance with the capacities and interests of the volunteer and the needs and desires of the children.
- Participation in the activities of the mobile project ”LudoBus”: national and EVS volunteers travel around Moldova in a bus and organize different activities and games for children and youth in the towns/villages they come across.
The volunteer tasks will be revised upon volunteer arrival according to the current activities of the organization and motivation and abilities of the volunteer. Upon the arrival EVS volunteers can participate in the training organized by the association, this training trains volunteers how to realize animation activities for children, how to use different games and animation tools, also during the EVS project volunteer will participate to the meetings organized for the staff and local leaders.
Horário: The volunteers will work 6 hours a day with 2 days off per week. National holidays (host country's holidays) are days off. In addition, the volunteer will have 2 holiday days per each month of volunteering to be taken in agreement with the host organization.
Condições: The volunteers will receive monthly the volunteer allowance, food money and transportation money.
Formação: During her time in Moldova, the volunteer will be allocated 1 experineced mentor ASSOCIATION CHILDREN’S FRIENDS who will support the volunteer in her activities (social & volunteering), living accommodation and all other day-to-day issues which may arise. This support will consist of a structured weekly supervision session, one day each week, about her chosen activities (and what specific support she needs to achieve this) and other issues that are relevant for the volunteer.
In the host organisation, the volunteer will count with the support of a tutor for task-related support, guidance, feedback and on-the-job training. She will also be able to reach at any time the project supervisor, if she has a question regarding the service or for any other matter. Besides on-going on-the-job training, the volunteer will also be invited to attend in-service training activities together with project staff.
In Moldova, the volunteer will work hand in hand with local volunteers and other community members involved in the project's activities. Where applicable, the combination of working in the project and living with a local host family will ensure a good integration into the local community.
Each volunteer takes part in a language course.
The volunteers can choose weather she would like to learn Romanian or Russian language. Upon arrival all volunteers have an intensive language course and some hours language course during the project duration.
